The successful candidate will spearhead regulatory strategy and compliance for food products and ingredients. This role requires deep expertise in food science, nutrition, and regulatory landscapes to guide innovation and ensure market access.
This is a 12-month contract opportunity in Toronto, ON.
Core Responsibilities:
Develop and execute complex regulatory and policy strategies related to nutrition, ingredients, and product science.
Translate intricate scientific and regulatory data into clear, actionable insights for internal teams, consumers, and external stakeholders.
Design, implement, and manage programs for nutrition, ingredient substantiation, product claims, and scientific validation.
Proactively identify and analyze emerging scientific and regulatory trends, assessing potential impacts and opportunities for the business.
Lead the resolution of complex, large-scale product and regulatory challenges, applying advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
Build and leverage a strong network of external stakeholders, including academics, policymakers, and industry experts.
Develop comprehensive project plans, identifying key milestones, potential hurdles, and resource requirements for complex initiatives.
Effectively influence and collaborate with cross-functional internal teams and key leadership to achieve regulatory and business objectives.
Communicate complex regulatory information and strategic recommendations clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.
Core Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Food Science, Nutrition, Microbiology, General Science, Environmental Public Health, or a closely related field.
Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in regulatory affairs within the food and beverage industry.
Expert-level knowledge of food labeling regulations (e.g., FDA, USDA, CFIA or equivalent international standards).
Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex scientific information and regulatory requirements to business needs.
Proven track record of developing and implementing successful regulatory strategies and programs.
Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities, particularly for complex and novel issues.
Strong ability to influence, negotiate, and build consensus among diverse stakeholder groups.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in conveying technical information to non-technical audiences.
Recognized scientific acumen and expertise in relevant areas of food science and regulation.
Ability to manage multiple complex projects, adapt to shifting priorities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
