As we gear up for the 2025 cruise season, we are seeking dedicated individuals to join our team.
Becoming a cruise season Security Guard is more than just a job – it's an opportunity to be actively engaged meeting and assisting visitors from around the world. You will not only play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of passengers and terminal staff but will also be the first point of contact for many visitors, representing Nova Scotia’s warmth and hospitality. If you are a customer service champion with a passion for interacting with people, this role offers a unique chance to make a positive impact on the experiences of those arriving in our province. Based at the Port of Halifax during our peak cruise ship season (April-November), your duties will include assisting passengers and terminal staff with wayfinding, access control, and other security needs.
In this role, you have the opportunity to work closely with our valued partners at the Halifax Port Authority, cruise ship company staff, as well as a host of visitors. Your duties will include:
WHO WE’RE SEEKING
We're looking for individuals who are professional with a strong work ethic and superb customer service skills. You must be 19 years or older, eligible to work in Canada and be able to communicate effectively in English (the ability to work using both official languages is considered an asset).
This is a job where physical fitness and mental alertness is required. Our Commissionaires need to be able to react calmly, quickly, and appropriately in any situation. You will have to manage long periods of time standing, so being able to concentrate and remain alert for the length of your shift is imperative. As our commissionaires are expected to patrol the Port you will need to be able to climb multiple flights of stairs with ease as well as display good dexterity and balance.
We support our people by investing in their training. All new Commissionaires are expected to achieve our paid for First Aid certification, as well as successfully complete the Commissionaires Security Officer Course.

Working Hours: Are typically, 12-hour shifts, on various days of the week, but these may be longer based on the Port schedule. Most shifts start early in the morning to be ready for a ship docking. Additionally, overnight shifts may be required when ships are in port. This position is seasonal and ends in November.
Please Note: applicants must be available to work shifts until the season end in the 1st week of November.
