We have an exciting contract opportunity for a Digital Transformation Consultant with a focus on service. This is a 6-month contract with the potential to extend for another 6 months. The ideal candidate is based in Edmonton, AB as this individual will be expected to work onsite 3-days per week.

The Digital Transformation Consultant will play a key role in supporting strategic planning, operational efficiency, and financial stewardship across IT and business functions. This role will bring technical expertise to a multi-disciplinary group and will require a strong analytical mindset and a focus on optimizing both technical services and financial resources. Responsibilities span technology evaluation, contract review, and support of grants and budget analysis.

Overview

  • Hours: 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM
  • Duration: 6-months to start, potential to extend for another 6 months
  • Location: Edmonton, AB
  • Hybrid: 3-days onsite per week
  • Rate Range: $60.00 to 80.00 per hour

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Research and evaluate the latest technology trends to determine ideal hardware/software/application options and maximize value for funds spent on IT goods/services.
  • Document technical recommendations and provide technical advice and guidance to management, operations, and project team members.
  • Evaluate current services and recommend remedial actions where needed, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams on ideal development and support paths.
  • Review services and technology currently used by business areas, assess their impact on the operational environment, and provide recommendations for remediation and cost savings.
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of contract spending and develop contract-level budget justifications.
  • Prepare optimized contractual spend plans to improve financial performance.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive zero-based budgeting reports.
  • Communicate operational guidelines and policies to clients.
  • Apply and interpret how operational guidelines enhance the department’s business processes.
  • Assist in developing project plans, schedules, and estimates.
  • Make recommendations to project team members regarding issues, risks, and client satisfaction, ensuring change management processes are followed.
  • Provide tracking and reporting of time and status on all work as required.
  • Support grants-related data collection and perform outcomes analysis as needed.

Must Haves

  • Experience in coordinating with business, IT partners, and other subject matter experts to gather and analyze all of a client's business requirements and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Experience developing and maintaining positive relationships across the organization, including executive level.
  • Experience with cloud services (i.e. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), and the ability to leverage them to build scalable and resilient architectures.
  • Must have Active Certification in Azure Fundamentals and AWS.
  • Experience creating data visualizations, dashboards, and other information products for clients using BI/analytics software, including any or all: SAS Visual Analytics, SAS Visual Investigator, MS Power BI, Tableau, Looker, R, Python.
  • Experience independently performing activities related to developing and releasing Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Negotiated Requests for Proposals (NFRPs), Requests for Quotes (RFQs), Requests for Information (RFIs), negotiation, evaluation, supplier feedback, and contract execution.
  • Experience successfully implementing IT solutions in an environment wit project resources from across multiple teams or organizations.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to understand detailed requirements and align the design to product vision and user needs. 
  • Experience working with other architects and/or as part of cross-functional teams to identity efficiencies through common services, reusable components and application programming interfaces (APIs), and contribute to the overall architecture practice designing and implementing application programming interfaces (APIs) and system integrations.
  • IT infrastructure support and troubleshooting experience within a team environment - with staff, contractors and vendor teams. 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure, AWS Solutions Architect, Oracle Certified Professional, PMP, ITIL) are highly desirable.
  • 5+ years of experience in IT roles supporting enterprise-level finance, budgeting, or contract management environments, including at least 3 years in a lead or senior technical role.
  • Deep understanding of business intelligence/data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), data warehousing, data modeling, and experience with scripting or automation (e.g., Python, PowerShell, ETL tools).
  • Strong knowledge of APIs, middleware, and system interoperability standards (e.g., JSON, XML, REST/SOAP).
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), platform migrations, and SaaS financial applications.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and executing system integrations across finance, procurement, and analytics platforms—ideally in support of Zero-Based Budgeting initiatives.
  • Direct experience leading technical delivery or digital transformation projects within a finance or procurement context.
  • Expert-level skills in architecture, configuration, and optimization of financial planning and contract management systems.
  • Experience with process automation, workflow management, and supporting organization-wide digital adoption initiatives.
  • Ability to lead complex technical projects, including requirements gathering, solution design, system integration, user acceptance testing, and change management.
  • Experience mentoring, training, and supporting IT and business teams in the adoption of new digital tools and best practices.
  • Strong understanding of finance, procurement, and contract operations within large organizations or government contexts, including regulatory and data stewardship challenges.
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements, ensuring IT solutions drive measurable business outcomes (e.g., cost tracking, spending transparency).
  • Experience contributing to IT strategy or roadmaps related to budgeting and contract management transformation.
