Manulife Global Wealth & Asset Management is looking for a Technical Platform Engineering Lead who excels in dynamic, fast-paced settings to become part of our platform engineering team. Positioned at the core of our technology strategy, our team is dedicated to developing robust, scalable, and efficient platforms that fuel our products and services. In this role, you will be instrumental in delivering innovative technology solutions by guiding agile processes and fostering continuous improvement. Success in this position requires a combination of agile expertise, technical insight, and outstanding interpersonal skills to empower our platform engineering team.

Position Overview:

As a Technical Platform Engineering Lead, you will guide our platform engineering team in adhering to agile principles and practices while fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation. Your technical capability in cloud services, infrastructure-as-code, and automation tools for CI/CD, will be crucial in facilitating the development and deployment of our scalable solutions. You will also support the team in handling delivery and ensure seamless operations for our globally deployed Kubernetes and API platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitation:

    • Lead all Scrum ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.

    • Ensure adherence to Scrum principles, promoting self-organization and cross-functionality.

  • Coaching & Mentoring:

    • Mentor team members on Agile methodologies, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

    • Provide feedback and guidance to support team development and collaboration.

  • Impediment Removal:

    • Proactively identify and remove obstacles that hinder team progress.

    • Collaborate with Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and partners to resolve issues and ensure resource availability.

  • Collaboration & Communication:

    • Act as the intermediary between the development team and collaborators to ensure priorities are aligned and to translate technical results into actionable insights and work.

    • Facilitate effective communication within and outside the team, maintaining a well-prioritized Product Backlog.

  • Performance Tracking:

    • Supervise and report on team performance metrics, including velocity and burndown charts.

    • Find opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance productivity.

  • Agile Advocacy:

    • Champion Agile principles and practices across the organization.

    • Engage with the Agile community to share knowledge and stay informed about industry trends.

  • Technical Migration :

    • Drive the planning across technical teams to support migration and adoption of hosting applications on modern platforms, such as implementing containerization and automated pipelines to enable migrating applications hosted on virtual machines to AKS.

    • Leading and handling technical migrations, translating technical outcomes into actionable insights and deliverables.

  • Technical Insights:

    • Demonstrate your technical experience in software development, automation tools, and cloud infrastructure to guide platform engineering efforts.

    • Provide insights for implementing standard methodologies for platform engineering, cloud networking, and software engineering principles.

How You Will Create Impact:

This role reports to our AVP, Platform Engineering and directly contributes to delivering impactful features that provide value to our customers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field; or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience as a Scrum Master in an Agile environment.

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or equivalent Agile certification.

  • Strong understanding of Agile principles, practices, and frameworks (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).

  • Excellent facilitation, coaching, and mentoring skills.

  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.

  • Exceptional communication and social skills.

  • Experience planning technical migrations and handling delivery dependencies across technical teams.

  • Technical background with previous experience delivering mission critical platform solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and API platform architecture, engineering, and operations.

  • Advanced proficiency with Agile project management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, PowerBI).

  • Advanced Agile certifications (e.g., Certified Scrum Professional, SAFe Scrum Master).

Salary range is expected to be between

$110,530.00 CAD - $205,270.00 CAD
