MULTI-ASSET SOLUTIONS TEAM (MAST)
The Multi-Asset Solutions Team (MAST) is tasked with the design, delivery, and management of bespoke cross-asset class investment solutions within Manulife Investment Management. MAST capabilities range from asset allocation, advisory, outcome oriented and equity & fixed income beta solutions, including target date, target risk, liability-driven investing, outsourced chief-investment officer, income, index replication and systematic beta. The team will utilize direct securities, proprietary and non-proprietary public and private markets strategies to construct solutions which are offered to retirement, retail, and institutional investors across the globe. Located in Boston, Toronto, Montreal, London, Singapore and Hong Kong, MAST has over 60 investment professionals with a wide range of expertise.
The Multi-Asset Solutions Team currently manages approximately $203 billion (CAD) across retirement, retail, institutional and high net worth channels.
ROLE SUMMARY
As a key member of the Multi-Asset Solutions Team (MAST) at Manulife Investment Management (MIM) and reporting to the Head of Investment Strategy, LDI & Advisory Solutions, the Investment Strategist, is responsible for coordinating the implementation and management of custom liability-driven investment strategies. This role also involves preparing comprehensive analyses to support asset allocation and asset/liability management solutions for institutional clients. By leveraging your actuarial expertise, you will contribute significantly to the growth and innovation of our multi-asset solutions business, ensuring that we continue to deliver tailored investment strategies that meet the diverse needs of our global institutional clientele.
KEY RESULTS
Actively engage in the implementation, management, and oversight of custom LDI solutions, taking a hands-on approach to develop and review client solutions promptly.
Engage in modeling client liabilities and establishing custom liability benchmarks, ensuring precision and innovation.
Actively monitor and adjust client mandates to align with dynamic investment strategies and objectives.
Document and parameterize mandates in our proprietary modeling system, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
Maintain the highest quality and consistency of client mandates and solutions, collaborating closely with Portfolio Managers to meet and exceed client objectives.
Provide in-depth analyses and insights to support strategic advice on investment solutions for institutional clients and prospects.
Conduct comprehensive asset allocation and ALM studies, leveraging your technical expertise.
Ensure the clarity and impact of presentations for clients and prospects, showcasing your analytical skills.
Offer robust internal support with investment, actuarial, and risk management advice to enhance sales, client servicing, and marketing efforts.
Collaborate closely with internal teams to deliver high-quality results efficiently and within deadlines.
Oversee and engage in mandate reviews, analyses, and projects, ensuring thoroughness and accuracy.
Verify and enhance the work completed by the team, providing support, guidance, training, and mentoring as needed.
Identify and implement opportunities to enhance tools, processes, and controls for increased efficiency.
Ensure that process documentation is current and accurate, contributing to continuous improvement.
Work alongside Portfolio Managers and other colleagues to drive projects, client meetings, RFPs, and ad hoc client requests.
Deliver proactive and timely responses to client needs, demonstrating thought leadership and innovative strategies to enhance and expand the business.
Actively participate in MAST Research Hubs and contribute to the development and implementation of value-added strategies in LDI and systematic strategies.
Coordinate within MAST and across broader Manulife Investment Management teams and distribution partners, fostering collaboration and innovation
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Actuarial designation (FCIA, FSA, ASA, etc.) or graduate degree in a quantitative field; or in pursuit of obtaining them.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in institutional investment solutions, asset/liability management, insurance or pension consulting, or related fields.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERTISE
Strong analytical skills with a deep understanding of fixed income and pension/insurance liabilities.
Expertise in asset allocation, portfolio construction methods, and asset-liability stochastic projections.
Familiarity with both public and private asset classes, as well as financial products and derivatives.
Strong understanding of pension and insurance regulations, along with funding and pricing techniques.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Matlab, SQL, and/or VBA.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Excellent communication abilities.
Fluency in both written and spoken English and French.
Strong organizational skills and ability to work efficiently as part of a team.
Capability to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
Strong skills in time management and planning.

Working Arrangement
Salary range is expected to be between

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
