Name and description of hiring department

The Ontario Field Operations team in Bell Canada is responsible for maintaining the outside cable network providing voice and data services to customers in the consumer Bell Business markets.

Job Duties / Accountabilities

  • CO Technician
    • Provisioning and maintenance of the network
    • Ensure that all assurance and routines are completed to ensure the network is working at optimum levels
    • Perform tasks associated with the provisioning, service assurance, maintenance and project coordination with technologies that include transport, broadband, IP, switching and frame in CO’s huts, CEV’s, WICs etc.
    • Work with various internal and external parties (NNOC, PCMC, BDA and vendors etc.)
    • Plan, coordinate, and ensure all activities related to daily work and projects are completed following company practices and processes (i.e. change management rules, etc.)
    • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on power equipment related to COs, Huts, CEVs, WICs and other equipment as required
    • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on microwave and/or satellite radio systems

 

  • Data/Mega/LAN technician
    • Deliver services to Voice, SMB and Enterprise market customers at the level of installing and repairing network systems and applications (application servers, switches, routers and other network equipment) for business customers
    • Implement, upgrade, and perform preventive maintenance and repair in the event of an outage for the router and switch systems of our large business customers, to the satisfaction of our customers
    • Independently coordinate activities surrounding the installation of new products and services, in close collaboration with the Sales teams and in keeping with the team’s mandate

Job Duties / Accountabilities (continued)

Additional duties include;

  • Ability to work autonomously and with minimal supervision
  • As necessary, agree to undergo a background security check to meet a customer’s clearance requirement

Prerequisite

  • Candidates who are part of the Craft and Services bargaining unit must have;
    • A college diploma in electronics or telecommunications, or equivalent work experience
  • Candidates from outside the Craft and Services bargaining unit must have:
    • A college diploma in electronics or telecommunications, or equivalent work experience
    • A minimum of a high school diploma
    • A valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC)
    • Successfully completed a valid 2 days first aid course within the last 3 years
  • Fluent in English
  • Hold a valid driver’s license - Class G or G2 (Ontario)
  • Capable to drive a snowmobile or Quad bike (commonly known as four-wheelers)
  • Possess good manual dexterity and able to work with different hand tools
  • Capable to lift and carry heavy weight
  • Capable to climb telephone poles and/or climb and carry ladders
  • Capable to kneel and bend and work in areas with restricted movement
  • Capable of differentiating coloured wires (colour code)
  • Capability to safely execute all functions/aspects of the job and meet all safety requirements associated with the work equipment

Working Conditions

The candidate must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and may be called upon to work variable schedules according to business needs (schedules within a given day are prepared by the Company with due consideration to seniority) to participate in a standby program and to work overtime as needed. Available and flexible to work days, evenings and nights, weekends, and statutory holidays when needed.
