How will you contribute:

The delivery of technology solutions is critical to Manulife’s overall business strategies. Technology must be delivered quickly, reliably and securely while demonstrating effective risk management to our customers, shareholders and regulators. 

As part of the first line of defense, Manulife’s Global Technology Governance & Control (G&C) function works across segments, markets, technology, and risk management teams globally to identify technology risks and operationalize the risk strategy. G&C aligns with leadership to set the risk culture, supports IT in identifying and mitigating risks end to end and provides an objective view of key risks to enable business decisions. G&C also provides processes, data, skilled resources and insight to track accountability and enables risk-based decisions.

The Director – Global Technology Governance & Control is responsible for leading projects to interpret incoming risks, issues, policies, standards, and design actions to address the requirements. Moreover, to lead the design and delivery of risk reports to provide partners and leadership with data driven analysis and insights to drive actions to maintain and improve risk management across segments.

Responsibilities:

Partnering with process owners and risk teams to design organize and improve control across the enterprise

  • Design and implement oversight processes to monitor the performance of high-risk controls.

  • Initiate and organize response for required corrective actions, and prepare for audits.

  • Track progress to implement action plans that address on key risks.

  • Provide status reporting and briefings to senior management on the status.

  • Assess new technology and their related support models to ensure risk coverage.

  • Maintain Governance & Control documentation related to the risks and controls.

  • Build relationships across three lines of defense to develop integrated strategies to manage our most key risks.

  • Provide technology, risk, business process or control consulting on company-wide initiatives.

Providing partners with actionable insights through robust risk reporting

  • Develop key messaging for reporting by highlighting key accomplishments, opportunities, and areas requiring focus.

  • Produce operating reports covering the productivity measurements of Governance & Control performance and the risk levels of our business.

  • Create comprehensive dashboards and reports that highlight key risk indicators, trends, and metrics.

  • Work across the team to identify key areas of the governance framework to identify analytic opportunities to support the ongoing measurement of risk and performance.

  • Ensure that metrics are reported timely and accurately through the implementation of a regular reporting cadence.

  • Drive innovation in the use of technology and analytics to enhance risk management capabilities.

  • Define processes to collect, aggregate, normalize, transform and present common risk data originating from multiple sources and formats to support regular reporting.

  • Maintain and manage cadence of key planning dates and roadmaps ensuring to ensure an effective communication channel is maintained across segments.

  • Support the fostering of a strong risk culture by promoting awareness and understanding of risk reporting and insights.

Skills and Experience:

  • University degree or equivalent experience in business administration or computer science.

  • A recognized auditing (CIA, CISA), security (CISSP), accounting designation (CPA), and/or project management (PMP) designation.

  • Knowledge of risk & control management methodologies and frameworks.

  • 10 years or more of related technology risk, audit, or information security experience.

  • Works well in a team setting.  Ability to lead, mentor and empower team members.

  • Can distil complex issues into simple reports, solutions, and designs.

  • Constantly learns from both success and failure.

  • Possesses good organizational and problem-solving abilities that enable you to manage through creative abrasion.

  • Delivers strong verbal and written communication; able to effectively articulate technical vision, possibilities, and outcomes.

  • Demonstrates understanding of how technology supports Manulife's strategy.

  • Maintains relationships effectively across senior management and staff levels.

  • Seeks to understand detailed information that support an issue or outcome.

Other Technical skills:

  • Hands-on technical working experience with data visualization, data modeling, MS Power Query, Power BI  and/or Grafana Experience with data engineering & data orchestration tasks such as ETL, database management, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake, Azure Databricks and Lakehouse Architecture. 

  • Experience with automation of data processes using Microsoft Automate.

Salary range is expected to be between

$105,750.00 CAD - $190,350.00 CAD
