In 2021, the OECD/G20 Inclusive Framework on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) issued a policy statement (Pillar 2’) focused on ensuring that large multi-national entities (MNEs), such as Manulife, pay a minimum rate of tax of 15% in each jurisdiction in which they operate (commonly referred to as the Global Minimum Tax or GMT). More than 140 countries have agreed to implement Pillar 2.
This new regime became effective in Canada in 2024, with Manulife’s Group Tax team launching a global program to ensure Manulife’s compliance with Pillar 2 and related legislation across all applicable jurisdictions where we operate. The program is now in its second full year of execution, with a focus on achieving compliance readiness by June 2026.
The Manager, Global Taxation will be an integral part of the global program team responsible for completing the operationalization of Manulife’s GMT regime. Supporting stakeholders and ancillary workstreams (e.g., financial planning & analysis, pricing, capital, expenses) impacted by the GMT through communications, education, and provision of relevant tax data to aid in their decision-making.
Upon completion of the operationalization stage, the Manager, Global Taxation will support the AVP, Global Taxation in ongoing maintenance and optimization of the end-to-end GMT lifecycle, including:
GMT modelling and tax calculations for reporting and compliance purposes.
