Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Cyber Security Specialist to support and strengthen the cybersecurity posture across on-premises and cloud environments. This full-time, on-site contract role will focus on the implementation, monitoring, and management of advanced security controls while ensuring compliance with relevant industry frameworks and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will be an analytical thinker with deep technical knowledge of Microsoft cloud security tools and proven experience in high-security, regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor advanced cybersecurity controls across on-prem and cloud environments (Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Defender suite, Microsoft Sentinel).
- Utilize tools such as Tenable One for vulnerability management, tracking, and remediation.
- Write and maintain PowerShell, KQL, JSON scripts, Logic Apps, or similar automation tools for security operations and response.
- Ensure compliance with industry-recognized frameworks (NIST CSF, ISO/IEC 27001/27002, CSA standards).
- Conduct detailed threat detection and incident response analysis, including log and forensic data review across network, cloud, and endpoint systems.
- Lead incident investigations and develop post-incident reports and lessons-learned documentation.
- Generate security posture metrics and reports, including Azure Secure Score dashboards and compliance tracking documentation.
- Maintain up-to-date cybersecurity artifacts (e.g., policies, SOPs, system security plans, network diagrams).
- Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to communicate risks, mitigation strategies, and compliance outcomes.
- Support nuclear-related or critical infrastructure cybersecurity documentation and procedures as applicable.
Required Qualifications
- University degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Computer Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in IT security or cybersecurity operations, including security monitoring and incident response.
- Must be eligible for Level II (Secret) Government of Canada Security Clearance.
- Demonstrated technical expertise with:
- Microsoft Azure security services
- Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Sentinel
- Tenable One or equivalent vulnerability management platforms
- PowerShell, KQL, JSON, and Logic Apps
- Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and standards (NIST CSF, ISO 27001/27002, CSA standards).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities for identifying risks and developing remediation strategies.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate technical security concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Prior experience in regulated or critical infrastructure sectors (e.g., energy, nuclear, utilities).
- Understanding of SCADA/ICS cybersecurity requirements and risk profiles.
Preferred Certifications
- CISSP, CISM, or GIAC (SANS) certifications
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate
- Other relevant vendor-specific security certifications
