Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Technical Services, the Senior Manager of Infrastructure Service Provisioning handles the service delivery and support of Government of Alberta (GoA) shared Information Management and Technology (ICT) infrastructure. The position lies at the intersection of exciting technologies, team leadership, critical operations management and customer delight.  You will be overseeing managers and teams running storage, networking, server hosting and virtualization and providing critical IT Infrastructure support to the entire Alberta Government, and Agencies, Boards and Commissions (ABC's), and the people of Alberta.  This includes providing coaching and developing staff, contract management, tactical planning, service management, and financial management particularly IT capital. Cutting edge technologies include sovereign AI Infrastructure, zero trust architecture, and automated operations and deployments.

This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations, reporting and planning for the complex GoA Shared IT private and public cloud infrastructure and platform services including server, storage, network, and related shared GoA-wide services. This position is responsible for development and implementation of new and future ICT solutions while ensuring that current technologies are sustained and continue to meet the needs of the clients. 

This position works with stakeholders across the government to promote, facilitate, and improve the delivery of GoA shared services using the GoA Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) common service delivery model.

Responsibilities: 
Some of the responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Service Level Management. 
  • Capacity Management.
  • Service Continuity Management.
  • Financial Management.


The Senior Manager is responsible for a number of Information Technology (IT) policies and procedures, methodologies, standards for server hardware, networking architecture, and technical service management.

Finally, the incumbent must complete and maintain an enhanced or where necessary a top-secret security clearance and be prepared to undertake call-out assignments as necessary.

Qualifications

Requirements: 

  • University graduation in a related field such as Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems.
  • Six (6) years of progressively responsible related experience in IT Management, particularly in IT operations and IT Infrastructure.
  • Extensive management/leadership experience in a large and diverse IT environment.


The incumbent is required to acquire and maintain an enhanced or where necessary a top-secret security clearance and be prepared to undertake call-out assignments as necessary.  

Equivalencies: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience. Or 
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.


Assets: 

  • ITIL and/or Service Management foundations certifications.
  • Experience operationalizing new and transformational IT Infrastructure technologies.
  • Experience in service management including setting and tracking KPIs, and meeting and setting service levels.
  • IT capital asset procurement and related budget, tracking and forecasting.
  • Experience in providing ICT service delivery and support services including server, storage, cloud services, and network.
  • Extensive knowledge of ICT and delivery of related services using internal resources and private sector service providers.
  • Experience in security management practices, policies and procedures.
  • Experience in project management processes and methodologies (waterfall/agile) and managing large IT projects.
  • Experience in managing human and financial resources, encouraging innovative approaches to deliver the most effective and efficient outcomes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business, financial, and operational planning and accountability processes.
  • Experience in leading large and complex initiatives and projects.

Term of Employment: Permanent, Full-time position    
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 36.25 hrs./week
Location: Edmonton

This position is eligible for hybrid work.
