Shape the future of public service delivery in Alberta by leading one of the government’s most ambitious modernization efforts. As Director, Motor Vehicles Modernization, you’ll drive the transformation of how millions of Albertans access vital motor vehicle services—streamlining outdated systems, reforming policy, and delivering enhanced, citizen-centered solutions. Your leadership will directly support the safe movement of people and goods, and exceptional service outcomes across the province.
 

Reporting to the Executive Director of Motor Vehicle Modernization within the Traffic Safety Services Division at TEC, you will lead the full-scale modernization of Alberta’s motor vehicle policy framework, the transformation of existing business models and service delivery channels and the replacement of 12 legacy technology applications. In partnership with Service Alberta Red Tape Reduction and Technology and Innovation, you will help shape a unified, efficient, and modern motor vehicle service environment.
 

Your key responsibilities include:

• Co-creating a cohesive Motor Vehicle Modernization strategic and tactical roadmap to ensure the Motor Vehicle Modernization initiative is delivered on time and on budget. 
• Using a data driven approach to review legislation, policy and processes and conducting in-depth analysis of options to support improved efficiency, flexibility and adaptability in the motor vehicle ecosystem from a regulatory and business operations perspective. 
• Building and managing strong, collaborative relationships across ministries and stakeholder groups
• Providing risk analysis and strategic recommendations to executive leadership
• Coaching and empowering a high-performing, multidisciplinary team of managers, contractors, and analysts
• Navigating politically sensitive environments and balancing diverse stakeholder priorities

Qualifications

Required:

• A related university degree (e.g., Political Science, Business, Public Administration, etc.), supplemented by a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible management experience. Equivalencies may be considered. 
• Cover letter detailing how your skills and experience align with the role's responsibilities, used to assess writing and communication skills.
• A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent

Preferred:

• A strong track record of leading large, multi-stakeholder transformation initiatives within complex environments
• Proven experience in strategic planning, regulatory modernization, and service delivery reform
• Project Management Professional (PMP) designation
• Six Sigma Black Belt certification

Equivalencies are:

• A related two-year diploma and a minimum of nine (9) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of ten (10) years of related experience; or a minimum of eleven (11) years of related experience in lieu of formal education.

Notes

Additional Position Details:

• This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm). 
• Location: Twin Atria Building, 4999 98 Ave, Edmonton, AB T6B 2X3
• Traveling will consist of less than 25% of the work schedule.
