The Energy Policy division is responsible for energy, mines, and minerals policy development and program design as well as energy economics and analysis. It engages with a wide variety of resource development partners including various levels of government, industry, and a wide spectrum of Alberta communities and Indigenous Peoples.
Resource Access, within Energy Policy’s Resource Stewardship Policy Branch, provides leadership and adopts a strategic perspective as it delivers on its policy and planning functions. Our work is focused on supporting the development and implementation of Land-use Framework regional plans, associated policy and planning initiatives such as caribou sub-regional planning, and intergovernmental agreements that govern access to Crown-owned minerals. Our team ensures these efforts appropriately consider the Integrated Resource Management System to meet the Ministry’s vision and mandate. The work we do every day is about developing strategic, risk-informed policy recommendations, implementing policy direction, and facilitating conflict resolution.

To support our efforts in making a difference for Albertans, the Resource Stewardship Policy Branch is looking for a new team member to join the Resource Access team.
In this role, you will be relied on as Alberta Energy’s subject matter expert on surface and subsurface policy interface, which includes diverse and challenging land, resource and environmental policy and planning initiatives, projects and issues. This will require you to collaborate effectively with cross-ministry and multi-stakeholder teams and committees to ensure Alberta Energy’s perspectives and interests are incorporated into the Integrated Resource Management System. The team’s work includes participation in the development and implementation of provincial environmental and resource management policy, legislative, and regulatory frameworks, and managing intergovernmental agreements that govern access to Crown-owned minerals.
You will be responsible for representing the Ministry on policy initiatives and issues, to ensure relevant perspectives relating to management of the Crown’s energy and mineral resources are integrated throughout the policy cycle. You will undertake research, review data, and consult with ministry and cross-ministry colleagues as well as stakeholders to determine impacts of potential policy options on provincial priorities for energy and mineral resource development.

University graduate degree in economics, environmental science, natural resource science, political science, public policy or administration or a related field, plus six years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
Equivalencies: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
