Role Summary:

The  Automation Test Lead is a key resource responsible for modernizing and rationalizing business processes as well as building business cases for or against why something should or should not be automated. The role requires technical leadership, strategic orientation, negotiation, high motivation, self-starter abilities, and

in-depth technical skills that will be intangibles in the goal of working hand in hands with the project resources and delivering end to end automated solutions. Under general direction, the QA Manager, the Automation Architect is the first point of contact for automation activities within projects and is an invaluable collaborator for development and quality control teams.  

We are looking for Development Lead with test automation skills and expertise.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and strategic orientation for the test automation discipline at an organization level

  • Build strategic communication on test automation strategy, KPI/ROI framework, implementation roadmap

  • Set direction for short and long-term automation objectives pertaining to SDLC phases

  • Bridge the gap between testing disciplines, development teams and operation teams 

  • Bring in depth knowledge of multiple open source/commercial tools for Web/Mobile/Services automation

  • Design and plan processes around CICD, Dev Ops adoption and operationalization

  • Bring hands on competencies around DevOps, Continuous Testing, Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery

  • Serve as an expert in defining and rolling out standard Automation Frameworks, in line with latest industry trends

  • Bring experience software quality best practices, test strategy and planning, test case development, test case execution, deployment and, test data, defect tracking, and test automation

  • QA Automation Architect will have complete ownership for preparing test automation solution, designing automation frameworks and lead the implementation of automation strategy, planning and execution of the product(s) across Medavie project/products.

  • Supports Junior to senior automation analyst in automation script development and optimization of those test scripts.

  • Recommends new tools, techniques and methodologies needed to enhance productivity and quality across Medavie Project/product

  • Evaluate, select and formulate best usage of test automation tools and future alignment for different products and applications.

  • Develop automation strategy to support regression testing based on the technical analysis, complexity and reusability

  • Responds appropriately and competently to the demands of work challenges when confronted with changes, ambiguity, adversity, and other pressures.

  • Oversee technological execution of the recommended automation solution roadmap across project teams

  • Participate in Design and Architectural reviews of proposed automation solutions across project teams and to provide long term vision for the automation solution

  • Analyzing and proposing the skillset and role required for future automation project with long term vision in mind.

As the ideal candidate, you possess the following qualifications:

Academic BackgroundBachelor’s degree or college diploma in Computer Science or similar program.

Experience 7+ years of IT experience in Automation, and or Development projects with 5 years or more experience programming applications using Java, JavaScript/Typescript

Languages: Proficiency in English is required (written & spoken).  French would be an asset.

Security Clearance: Security Clearance Requirement: In conjunction with our contract with the Federal Government, you will be required to have Reliability Status Clearance (Enhanced Level B).  This includes Fingerprinting, Criminal Record Check, Credit Check and you must have resided in Canada for at least 5 years and hold Permanent Resident or Citizenship Status. 

Other Skills:

  • Demonstrable software development experience

  • Develop and maintain applications using Java, Spring Framework, Oracle, XML, JSON, Junit, and numerous JavaScript libraries

  • Experience with code management tools mainly Git and build tools like maven

  • Strong testing experience 

  • Experience with testing methodologies, processes, strategies 

  • Very good at problem solving, analysis and troubleshooting

  • Hands on experience with Selenium based framework (i.e., Webdriverio), Node JS 

  • Concrete experience practicing BDD testing with Gherkin/Cucumber, API testing with SOAP or RESTful components. Mobile testing with Appium would be a plus.

  • Experience working in DevOps culture

  • Solid understanding of CICD principles and core objectives

  • Understanding of pipelines and experience with CI tools like Gitlab or Jenkins 

Tech stack:

  • Programming language: Java, JavaScript/html/CSS/JSON, YAML, Python or equivalent scripting language

  • Engines or frameworks: Node Js, Spring Boot or equivalent

  • Code management / Build tools:  Git – Gitlab / Jenkins or equivalent

  • Frameworks: Selenium - Selenium JS – Webdriverio / Appium - Protractor - Cucumber 

  • Containerization and Orchestration: Docker/Kubernetes

  • Testing & work methodology: BDD, TDD, CICD

  • Data: SQL / PL-SQL developer
