Role Responsibilities

 

The Ministry of Treasury Board and Finance is looking for Senior Auditors.

 

Are you a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), with experience in audit, tax administration or the oil and gas industry? Do you have knowledge of Alberta's corporate tax, commodity tax or royalty regimes and enjoy challenging work? The Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA) division is looking for Senior Auditors for our audit team. We are an enthusiastic, goal-orientated and knowledgeable team – join us! 

 

Reporting to a Senior Manager in the audit branch, you will conduct desk and field audits and reviews, of medium to high complexity, involving a variety of corporate tax, commodity tax or royalty programs. You will be required to perform audit planning, sample selection, developing audit programs, gaining an understanding of the auditee’s accounting processes, and completion of substantive audit testing. You will use your extensive knowledge and audit skills to ensure that returns are reported accurately under the Acts and Regulations administered by the TRA Audit branch. You will lead and work in complex and diverse audit programs individually or as part of a team. You will also be challenged to demonstrate creativity and innovation in identifying audit efficiencies and adapt to changing environments in Alberta's tax and royalty programs. As a Senior Auditor, you will also be responsible for identifying potential regulatory or policy issues, as well as providing comprehensive analysis and detailed recommendations to senior management.

 

You must be able to prioritize to ensure you meet tight timelines. You will also have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and be able to articulate and present complex issues to a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Strong analytical and interpretative skills as well as attention to detail and accuracy will assist you in this role. The ability to build collaborative environments by establishing positive working relationships and managing multiple assignments simultaneously in support of branch objectives is key.

Qualifications

 

Required:

  • A Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant designation, plus 3 years of progressively responsible experience in audit, accounting, tax or royalty administration is required. 
  • A cover letter outlining how your experience relates to the qualifications of this role is required and will be used to assess your communication capabilities.

 

Assets:

  • In-depth knowledge of the oil and gas industry and oil sands royalty regulations, policies, and procedures
  • In-depth knowledge of Alberta’s corporate or commodity tax provisions
  • Experience auditing tax or royalty programs
  • Proficiency in complex data and predictive analytics tools and techniques such as Power BI
  • Advanced skills in the Microsoft Office

These are permanent full-time positions, working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday. These positions will be located at Edmonton Government Centre in Edmonton or AMEC Place in Calgary.

  • Final Candidates for these positions will be asked to undergo a Level 2 Security Screening.
  • This competition may be used to fill current and future vacancies at equal or lesser classification across the Government of Alberta.
  • Travel may be required.
