Reporting to the Managing Director, Investment & Corporate Banking (“I&CB”) Strategy & Business Management (“SBM”), this diverse role is responsible for a high level of analytical and operational support for the Strategic Planning & Financial Analysis vertical (“SPFA”) within the SBM Teams in Global I&CB.

The Analyst will have responsibility for day-to-day operational support, with a specific focus on supporting business planning and analysis, performance tracking and reporting, and assistance with business updates and presentations.

The role requires an individual who has strong analytical and financial modelling capabilities, solid presentation writing skills, is an effective communicator, demonstrates high attention to detail and shows a willingness to acquire new skills and industry knowledge. The optimal candidate has both a strong ability to work independently as well as a desire to meaningfully collaborate with the broader team.  The candidate must possess the highest level of integrity and be very adept in managing matters and information that are both highly sensitive and confidential.
 

The role requires a minimum of 3 days a week in the office.

Key Accountabilities

• Business Planning / Analytics / Modelling = 40%
• Performance Tracking and Reporting = 40%
• Operational Support / Ad hoc = 20%


Business Planning / Analytics / Modelling
• Build and maintain key financial planning and analytic models related to all aspects of financial and performance reporting as well as key income statement / balance sheet drivers
• Assist in the planning/design and development of integrated confidential reports and updates on key Global I&CB performance objectives (both financial and non-financial), group business plans and strategic initiatives

• Prepare, source and analyze external and internal data on a variety of topics including market and competitive environment, competitor fee share data, league table data, expenses, etc.

• Expectation to keep current on industry trends in investment and corporate banking

• Ability to manage time accordingly - shifting focus and priorities between recurring tasks and ad hoc requests from senior management

• Work with the team to develop the financial plan for the Global I&CB business as part of the annual planning process, including financial analysis of key growth initiatives

Performance Tracking and Reporting
• Regular update and tracking of financial and operational metrics including the identification of potential areas of opportunity or concern for the Global I&CB business or for specific areas within I&CB

• Actively engage in all elements of quarter end deliverables to help management assess and track business performance, including quarterly highlights, key presentation materials for the business and Executive Leadership, board slides, etc

• Assist in preparing quarterly business commentary and slides for Global I&CB, including analysis of our competitive position in Canada and the U.S.
• Prepare presentations and materials for senior leaders and executives on business performance and initiatives as well as for communication and strategy related meetings that take place throughout the year
• Assist in managing the monthly pipeline forecast process


Operational Support / Ad Hoc
• Work in partnership with SP&FA team, the broader SBM team as well as with various stakeholders across the firm to deliver business presentations and updates, key initiatives, and ad hoc requests

Knowledge and Skills

• Undergraduate degree with a focus on Business, Economics, or Finance/Accounting
• 1-2 years of relevant business support or business analysis experience, preferably in Capital Markets or Financial Services
• Previous experience in financial analysis and modelling is an asset
• Strong analytical and mathematical capabilities
• High proficiency in MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Familiarity with various market data software including Bloomberg, Dealogic and Factset is an asset
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills working collaboratively in a team environment

• Exceptional prioritization, time management and organization when dealing with competing priorities

• Interest and ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
• Excellent attention to detail, quality control and ability to learn and adapt quickly

• High degree of collaboration and composed presence with multiple cross-functional teams across all levels of seniority.  SBM roles often represent an extension of leadership and must conduct themselves accordingly

Base Salary Range

$65,000.00 - $70,000.00 CAD

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
