This is an exciting opportunity to advance your professional development through hands on experience, training, and mentorship from highly qualified Red Seal Certified Tradespersons.
At Building Services, we support the efficient use and care of government owned buildings ranging from offices to justice centers. Without our staff’s proactive measures, equipment issues or failures could lead to an interruption of government services provided. As the apprentice, you are just one of the key players who support the overall safety and efficiency of our infrastructure.
This is your opportunity to jump start your Apprenticeship and gain valuable experience with the Building Services Division. In this role, you will advance your professional career through hands on experience, training, and mentorship from highly qualified Red Seal Certified Tradespersons. As an Apprentice with Public Works, the skills you will learn are invaluable and will last a lifetime!
During your apprenticeship, you will be under the general supervision of the Electrical Superintendent or Electrical Foreperson. As our Electrician Apprentice, you will assist in the inspection, maintenance, repair and/or installation of electrical systems and related equipment, in our provincial owned and leased buildings. You will work with electrical motors, distribution systems equipment, motor control centres, fire alarm systems, security systems, communication systems, emergency power systems and lighting, and much more.
You must be willing to register in an Electrician Apprenticeship Program by the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency.
Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License.
Must register as a Construction or Industrial Electrician Apprentice with Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency.
Safety training in the following are considered assets: Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act, Safety Orientation, First Aid Certification and CPR, WHMIS, Scaffolding Safety, Fall Protection (Basic and Scaffolding Practical), Confined Space Awareness, Elevating Work-Platforms.
You are able to analyze information, problem solve, and have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing. Your ability to efficiently and effectively obtain information and exercise sound judgment is key. As our next Apprentice, you demonstrate key qualities such as collaborating in a team environment and demonstrate an understanding of diversity and inclusivity. Daily, you respond with tact and diplomacy when working with various government clients, contractors, public, and staff.
We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Most of your work is completed indoors, but also occasionally outside where normal hazards of a construction site are present. Your safety is important to us, and we count on you to follow all safe work practices when handling machinery, tools, and materials. Some of your duties will require you to climb, work at heights, or within confined spaces.
This opportunity is for a 1 year Term with the option to extend.
Pay Grade: TRA 14
Salary Range: $19.20 - $30.40 Hourly
