The Court and Justice Services (CJS) Division provides a wide range of resolution and court services for people involved in legal disputes. In collaboration with the courts of Alberta, Court and Justice Services provides various programs and services including educating and helping Albertans finding solutions for legal issues, navigating the court system, offering programs at no cost or a nominal charge, and administrative support to all courts in Alberta. Role Responsibilities

Are you a dedicated individual with extensive knowledge of family violence issues? Do you excel in communication and thrive on navigating complex legal and social service systems? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to make a meaningful impact on families across Alberta!
 

As a Family Violence Court Liaison, you will work collaboratively with the Family Court and service delivery staff, acting as the key liaison between matters occurring in family, child protection, and criminal courts. You will ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality services to individuals dealing with family violence and multiple legal matters across Alberta.
 

Your role involves, but is not limited to:

  • Intake and Assessment – conducting assessments for program suitability, providing  referrals to appropriate resources, and informing clients about the communication processes.
  • Case Management – managing complex cases, completing required information sharing agreements and consents, responding to judiciary requests, directions, and actions, as well as attending court hearings as required.
  • Consultation and Collaboration - developing and maintaining strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, such as lawyers, legal aid, community legal centers, women's shelters, Indigenous counseling services, family violence supports, community agencies, and police services, to facilitate information sharing and enhance client services.
  • Documentation and Reporting - maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records and documentation related to client services, court activities, and outcomes.
  • Case Follow-Up and Monitoring - following up with clients after court hearings to provide additional support and resources as required as well as monitoring ongoing cases to identify any emerging issues and respond proactively to ensure client needs are met.

Qualifications

Required: A Bachelor of Social Work Degree with some related experience in family violence issues/dynamics, child protection, and safety planning.

The following equivalencies will be considered:

  • Master of Social Work (no experience required), OR
  • Related University Degree (e.g., Law, Social Sciences, etc.) and 2 years related experience, OR
  • Related Diploma and 3 years related experience, OR
  • Related Certificate and 4 years related experience.

As per the Health Professions Act, successful applicants must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) if:

a) They have a degree in social work from any university in North America that is accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE) or the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), OR

b) They have graduated from an approved social work diploma program in Alberta, OR

c) They have, within the last five years, been a registered, certified, or licensed social worker in another province or with a member of the Association of Social Work Boards.

Assets
Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Working knowledge and/or experience in family violence (e.g. trauma-informed training, working in women’s shelters, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of Alberta’s court procedures and processes. 
  • Working knowledge of child development, attachment theory, and temperament, relating to separation and divorce.
  • Working knowledge of legislation related to family violence (e.g. Youth Criminal Justice Act, Family Law Act, Divorce Act, etc.).

Notes

Position Information:

  • This posting will be used to fill five (5) temporary, full-time positions, each with a duration of three (3) years.
  • Work Location: Edmonton or Calgary, depending on the successful candidates' location.
  • Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:15AM-4:30PM, 36.25 hours a week.


Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.
