- Prepare the credit application, undertaking appropriate and adequate due diligence, ensuring risk is aligned to Operating Procedures, ensuring credit application must be sufficiently complete and descriptive to enable understanding of the decision and replication of the margin lending risk measures using qualitative and quantitative inputs.
- Grant or recommend credit to Line of Business clients in a prudent approach, where the credit facilities are to be both safe and sound, and the purpose of terms are clearly identified and make sense within the limits delegated by the company.
- Give consideration of margin lending risk and return of business relationships that should be of sufficient benefit to justify the commitment of scarce resources, otherwise an early decline, discontinuation or re-pricing of credit, whenever it is deemed appropriate and overall provides margin lending structuring assistance and guidance to the Line of Business
- Provide stress testing to assess financial assets’ market risk and its derivatives risk, whenever required.
- Monitor margin lending risk and minimize losses through control reports, ensuring that Line of Business has resolved any outstanding items promptly and such items are tracked and stored appropriately for auditing purposes. Where items remain outstanding, they are to be escalated per Operating Procedures.
- Monitor and action specified margin loan and concentration reports including regularization of margin deficits and identification and resolution of exceptions.
- Conduct ad-hoc risk analysis to share with the Line of Business for discussion, whenever required
- Follow consistent workflow process and resolve branch network inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate turnaround for any Line of Business’ inquiries.
- Understand regulatory and compliance requirements to ensure margin lending is compliant with CIRO rules, internal policies, procedures and guidelines for the purpose of loan adjudication, audit, and compliance
- Provide support to any Internal Audit, Corporate Compliance, and Operational Risk to review and describe to external regulator’s requests for information and self-assessments, as well as on-site audits
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of investment products, processes, and relevant legal, regulatory, and technology requirements through audits and quality checks, to ensure decisions are adequately documented and clearly communicated.
- Ensure adherence to all aspects of FirstPrinciples, Our Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Corporate Policy, as well as all applicable legislation, regulatory rules and requirements, and Bank standards, policies and procedures (P&Ps) for such things as potential conflicts of interest, safeguarding of customer information, trading in securities, anti-money laundering, privacy and disclosure of outside business activities.
- Identify potential risk situations within the scope of work (e.g. risk assessments), make recommendations and / or escalate to the manager, where appropriate, and ensure contingency plans exist.
- Understand risks inherent in areas of expertise and take appropriate actions, including accuracy and safeguarding of all documentation and any other requirements to ensure operational integrity is maintained within the business.
Provides support and service for the Investment Operations function of BMO’s business stakeholders and customers. Executes and delivers on Investment product and service processes ensuring adherence with financial and regulatory controls and operational guidelines.
- Develops solutions and makes recommendations based on an understanding of the business strategy and stakeholder needs.
- Provides advice and guidance to assigned business/group on implementation of solutions.
- Helps determine business priorities and best sequence for execution of business/group strategy.
- Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicates with internal business partners and external customers in response to standard and non-standard inquiries.
- Monitors and tracks performance, and addresses any issues
- Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide insights and recommendation.
- Gathers and formats data into regular and ad-hoc reports, and dashboards.
- Builds change management plans of varying scope and type; leads or participates in a variety of change management activities including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation, and sustainment of initiatives.
- Leads or participates in defining the communication plan designed to positively influence or change behaviour; develops tailored messaging; and identifies appropriate distribution channels.
- Provides input into the planning and implementation of operational and business programs.
- May assist with activities such as coordination and scheduling of work, forecasting resources.
- May assist in the coordination of work flow and activities of the team, including assigning work, periodically reviewing output, providing input to employee performance reviews, quality control, training, team coaching and guidance, operations research, and problem resolution.
- Fulfills routine and frequently non-routine transactions, responds to internal business partner and/or external customer inquiries / requests, and/or audit/reconciliation activities.
- Analyzes and resolve complex issues efficiently and effectively in accordance with Bank and industry standards.
- Acts as primary back-up to team members and as back-up to the manager.
- Evaluates circumstances requiring exceptions and engages senior management for resolution.
- Identifies business needs, designs/develops tools and training programs; may include delivery of training to audiences.
- May acts as the day-to-day contact for vendors; supports the implementation, maintenance, and sustainment of vendor solutions.
- Provides input and analysis into the continuous improvement of business processes and procedures and participates in the planning, testing, and implementation of projects and new / revised products, services, or processes.
- Provides accurate and timely processing of transactions, activities, services, etc. to respond to stakeholder requests in compliance with regulatory and risk controls.
- Provides accurate, consistent, and knowledgeable responses to internal/external stakeholder questions and requests.
- Follows documented policies and procedures to execute day-to-day transactions, activities, processes and meet all Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Checks and reconciles information and documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Analyzes data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
- Identifies and analyzes issues and problems and resolves in a timely manner or escalates as required.
- Communicates and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to deliver on business objectives.
- Develops and maintains effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to execute work and fulfill service delivery expectations.
- Develops and maintains an understanding of the regulatory requirements and risks inherent in the operations to take appropriate actions and maintain operational integrity.
- Collaborates in the development / implementation of new processes/systems and changes / improvements to existing systems and processes.
- Supports the development of tools and delivery of training focused on delivering business results.

Qualifications:
- Typically between 4 - 6 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge and experience using relevant systems and technology – In-depth.

- Knowledge of the risk and regulatory requirements of the business – In-depth.
