Role Responsibilities

The Ministry of Justice has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Analyst role in the Modernization, IMT and Research branch!

Are you skilled at software engineering, end to end system design, or legacy system transformation and want to lead the way in transforming Justice systems and services to deliver improved user experiences, services and enhanced outcomes for Albertans interacting with the Justice system? Do you enjoy identifying challenges and leading the charge to solutions?  If so, the Senior Analyst, Legacy and Architecture role in the newly formed Modernization, IMT and Research branch within the Strategy, Support and Integrated Initiatives Division may just be right for you!

Reporting to the Manager, Legacy and Architecture, you will play a key role in driving innovation and modernization across ministry IT initiatives. Your responsibilities will include identifying emerging issues, conducting research, and contributing to the planning and prioritization of critical technology projects that support a wide range of departmental goals. You will engage stakeholders to drive alignment on key legacy application modernization and service transformation initiatives. Additionally, you will propose best practices and technology recommendations for system design and development, promote the standardization of terminologies and processes, and help establish reusable patterns and solutions.

In this role, you will assess and develop strategies for legacy system replacement initiatives, gather and analyze both functional and non-functional requirements, and support business case development, options analysis, feasibility studies, and jurisdictional scans. You will also contribute to the proposal and review of end-to-end system design initiatives to ensure effective and sustainable solutions.

Key responsibilities for this position:

  • Design innovative end-to-end technology solutions for legacy systems by analyzing business workflows, creating modular architectures while ensuring security, data integrity, and compliance with government mandates.
  • Lead comprehensive assessments of the ministry’s technology ecosystem to identify opportunities for reducing technical debt, enable data-driven prioritization, and optimize systems to better align with evolving business objectives.
  • Drive initiatives in IMT governance, compliance, and risk management, including the creation of legacy system decommissioning plans, business continuity strategies, and the smooth transition from legacy systems to future-state solutions.
  • Facilitate strong collaboration across end users, subject matter experts, project and product teams, business partners, and implementation teams to uncover and validate user needs, refine business requirements, promote standardization, and champion continuous improvement throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support the successful delivery and adoption of digital solutions by assisting business teams with change management activities and helping to embed new technologies and re-engineered processes into day-to-day operations.
  • Coordinate and conduct activities that support ministry, division, and branch initiatives — ensuring work aligns with business priorities, providing regular updates and status reports, and escalating risks and issues to the manager as needed.
