Our established commercial property management client is seeking a Building Manager to join their team in Ottawa. Reporting to the Property Operations Manager, the Building Manager is responsible for overseeing assigned properties, ensuring top-tier building maintenance, and managing staff and contractors.
This is a full-time, permanent position that will require you to work fully on-site, 5 days a week, out of downtown Ottawa.

Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of commercial office, retail, and warehouse spaces.
- Address service-related issues for internal and external customers.
- Manage and coordinate staff and subcontractors.
- Create and implement training schedules for new staff and subcontractors.
- Respond to emergencies like fires, floods, and power outages, including after-hours on-call duties.
- Handle insurance claims and coordinate restoration efforts with insurance companies.
- Collaborate with the leasing department and assist as needed.
- Prepare and propose capital expenditures for property improvements.
- Manage service contracts, including janitorial, HVAC, and landscaping, and implement external security measures.
- Conduct regular building inspections, oversee repairs, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and government standards.
Qualifications:
- Valid certification in Building Environmental Systems or equivalent (e.g., Stationary Engineer 4th/5th Class).
- Valid driver's license and eligibility for security clearance.
- Proven experience in general maintenance, preferably within commercial, retail, or industrial settings.
- Experience with building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire alarms, and physical plant operations.
- Strong knowledge of building systems, safety protocols, and emergency procedures.
- Strong leadership, management, and customer service skills.
- Effective problem-solving, critical thinking, and task-oriented leadership abilities.
