Do you have a deep understanding of the design, maintenance, and repair of modern motor vehicles?  Do you have a comprehensive understanding of Alberta’s Out of Province and Salvage Vehicle inspection programs? If so, we want you to be part of our team as Alberta’s Motor Vehicle Inspection Specialist. In this dynamic and impactful role, you’ll provide critical technical guidance to technicians and facilities performing inspections and be responsible for maintaining and improving Alberta’s vehicle inspection standards and regulations. Your work will help ensure vehicles passing an Alberta inspection are in safe operating condition and will directly contribute to Alberta's commitment to vehicle safety, compliance, and innovation.

As the Motor Vehicle Inspection Specialist, you will be Alberta’s technical subject matter expert for the Out of Province and Salvage Vehicle inspection programs. This is a unique opportunity to take an active role as a member of the Vehicle Standards Team, liaising with stakeholders, conducting facility verifications, advising on new vehicle technologies, and playing a pivotal role in keeping Alberta's roadways safe and efficient.

Your key responsibilities include:

• Providing expert advice to vehicle owners, inspection facilities, and technicians regarding Alberta’s vehicle inspection criteria and standards.
• Maintaining and improving the program’s inspection criteria and standards, ensuring they align with evolving industry needs and legislation.
• Leading the creation of inspection manuals, ensuring consistency with best practices and industry methods.
• Conducting facility verifications to ensure new facilities have the tools and equipment to conduct good inspections.
• Researching emerging vehicle technologies and incorporating them into inspection standards to keep pace with industry advancements.
• Educating stakeholders and the public on vehicle inspection requirements, delivering presentations and educational sessions.
• Providing input for regulatory amendments and improvements.
• Assisting with the development and publication of newsletters, brochures, and other program-related materials.

Qualifications

Required:
 

• Any two (2) of these three (3) Journeyperson trade certificates:
  • Auto Body Technician (preferred)
  • Automotive Service Technician
  • Heavy Equipment Technician
• Three (3) years related experience at the Journeyperson level.

Preferred:

• Experience working in a shop setting.
• Understanding of government regulations and inspection guides.
• Strong technical expertise, including extensive knowledge of vehicle inspection criteria and industry standards.

Additional Position Details:

• This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm). 
• Location: Twin Atria Building, 4999 98 Ave, Edmonton, AB T6B 2X3
