Job Title: Database Administrator (Oracle & MS SQL)
Location: Remote within Canada
Job Type: 2 years contract, with possible extension. Full-time 40 hours a week


About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Database Administrator (DBA) with expertise in Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server to join our team. This role will focus on both project work and ongoing support activities from a systems administration perspective, working closely with infrastructure and application teams to ensure optimal database performance, security, and availability.


Work Model

  • Remote-first role

  • Candidates must have availability to work in Saskatchewan CST.

  • Occasional availability outside standard hours may be required for critical updates or recovery procedures


Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain Oracle and MS SQL databases on various platforms

  • Set up and manage VMware environments and ensure integration with database systems

  • Administer Microsoft Server and Azure infrastructure, including Windows Server and cloud-based resources

  • Implement and maintain backup and recovery strategies for critical systems

  • Monitor and optimize database performance, identifying and addressing bottlenecks

  • Maintain high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) configurations using tools such as Oracle RAC, Data Guard, and SQL Server Always On

  • Enforce security best practices for databases, including access control, encryption, and compliance checks

  • Execute and manage database migrations and software upgrades, ensuring minimal disruption

  • Create and maintain clear and comprehensive technical documentation and user guides for systems and processes


Deliverables

  • Backup and Recovery Plans – Well-documented and regularly updated strategies with scheduled backups and test recovery drills

  • Performance Tuning Reports – Detailed analysis reports highlighting issues, improvements, and ongoing performance metrics

  • Security Configuration Standards – Consistent application of best practices with audit-ready documentation

  • Database Health Reports – Regular monitoring reports with status updates, error logs, and recommendations


Required Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience with Oracle and MS SQL database administration

  • Strong understanding of VMware, Azure, and Windows Server Administration

  • Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) or Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), or equivalent certifications

  • 2–4 years of formal technical education (e.g., technical diploma or university degree in Computer Science or related field)

  • Experience with backup and recovery tools and techniques

  • Solid understanding of security principles and database access control


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with disaster recovery planning and high availability configuration.
    Familiarity with cloud-based deployments in Azure environments
    Strong communication skills and the ability to create professional-grade technical documentation
