Our client, a leading global financial institution, is seeking an experienced Director, Human Resources to join their team. This role is ideal for a strategic HR leader with extensive experience in federally regulated financial institutions.
The Director, Human Resources will serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders, providing expertise in employee relations, engagement, talent planning, and development. This role is crucial to driving business growth through people strategy, policy development, and compliance with Canadian HR regulations.
Roles and Responsibilities
Act as a strategic partner to business leaders, providing expert HR guidance on workforce planning, talent development, and organizational design.
Lead key HR processes, including performance management, succession planning, compensation reviews, and diversity initiatives.
Ensure regulatory compliance across all HR activities, with particular focus on training, hiring, background checks, and culture risk controls.
Implement and manage frameworks related to pay equity, employee equity, accessibility, and other ad hoc compliance initiatives.
Collaborate with finance, legal, risk management, and compliance teams to align HR strategy with business objectives and mitigate organizational risk.
Develop and enforce penalties and corrective measures when HR non-compliance or process failures occur, drawing from industry lessons.
Utilize HR analytics to provide insights and recommendations that drive retention, engagement, and overall employee satisfaction.
Oversee and mentor a team of 2-3 HR professionals, ensuring effective execution of HR programs and policies.
Maintain compliance with Canadian labor laws, federal regulations, and HR best practices.
Serve as a liaison with U.S.-based HR leaders.
Represent HR to both internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating subject matter expertise and professionalism.
Qualifications and Skills
10-15 years of progressive HR experience in a financial institution.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
CHRP designation required; CHRL or other advanced HR certifications are an asset.
Deep understanding of federal labour regulations and HR compliance requirements in Canada.
Demonstrated leadership in implementing HR controls, frameworks, and regulatory training programs.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
Proven experience managing teams and working across multiple stakeholders in a highly regulated environment.
