Job Description

Accountability: 

  • Prepare project RAMS deliverables according to the program.
  • Perform RAMS Analysis on fleet failures such as Failure modes, effects, and criticality analysis (FMECA), Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS). 
  • Support design, testing, and commissioning feedback studies for achieving Operations and Maintenance improvement objectives.
  • Support hazard identification/analysis to assess hazards, causes, and level of risk.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze subsystem-level failure mode effects and critical analysis.
  • Support the Revenue Vehicle Maintenance (RVM) engineering team through independent verification and testing for System Assurance deliverables. 
  • Develop and maintain a failure database for all train-level subsystems. 
  • Develop and maintain Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD), and assigning reliability allocation for all Subsystems.
  • Oversee Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for safety related and repetitive system failures.
  • Participate in and lead interface workshops as appropriate to define requirements related to the operation of the transportation system. 
  • Formalize interface sheets between the transportation system and the infrastructure, plan and monitor the resolution of these interfaces. 
  • Organize and conduct workshops to resolve these technical interfaces. 
  • Formalize the input data requirements to be obtained from the infrastructure teams for the design of the transportation system.  
  • Perform technical review(s) of the transportation system design and its subsystems to ensure proper integration of the transportation system with the infrastructure disciplines. [KV1] 
  • Participate in workshops around the performance of the transportation system, including operation and maintenance prerogatives, operational safety, and intramodality with other modes of transportation. 
  • Write technical documents related to the identification and specification of interfaces with the transportation system. 
  • Support the RVM Safety Engineer(s) in Hazard log activities during the System Safety Analysis Phase, and in performing safety analyses such as Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), System/Sub System Hazard Analysis (SHA/SSHA), Interface Hazard Analysis (IHA), Operation & Support Hazard Analysis (OSHA). 
  • Support the development of Hazard Breakdown Structure along with Product (or Work) Breakdown Structure.

Qualifications

Education & Qualifications: 

  • Completion of a University Degree with a focus on Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.

Certifications or Designations: 

  • Registered with the PEO (or equivalent) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) (or meet the requirements to attain this license). 
  • Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) training and certification would be considered as an asset.

Experience 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Fleet/Rolling stock or the rail-transit field, with knowledge of maintenance, operations, and engineering. 
  • Must be familiar with CENELEC standards, including EN50126, EN50128, EN50129.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparation of RAMS analyses and planning. 

Competencies 

  • Willingness to work in a complex project, providing new ideas and facilitating collaboration and cooperation between diverse stakeholders to deal with construction and complex engineering issues.  
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills are required. 
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new situations and learn new topics and work independently.
