Position Overview

Calian is seeking a Research Assistant to join the RMC Green Team, a multidisciplinary research group supporting the Department of National Defence (DND). The team focuses on sustainable infrastructure, water and wastewater treatment systems, and other environmental and energy projects within DND installations across Canada. The successful candidate will contribute to studies and activities related to sustainable infrastructure, water and wastewater treatment plants, and energy/environmental projects, helping to analyze data and prepare reports for the DND.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct technical report writing and data analysis
  • Perform literature reviews (research journals, policy documents, DND materials, and technical reports)
  • Actively participate in team meetings
  • Prepare presentations for meetings with supervisors and sponsors
  • Conduct site visits to DND installations and evaluate base facilities’ performance
  • Assist other team members with tasks under tight timelines

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Strong technical and report writing skills
  • Experience with water and wastewater treatment systems, or relevant environmental engineering projects
  • Knowledge of environmental regulatory frameworks (Federal and Provincial)
  • Proficiency with MS Office and other relevant software applications
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Desirable Qualifications
  • * Recent graduates with an engineering degree
  • Ex-military members with relevant degrees and/or military experience
  • 2 to 3 years of experience in engineering projects (water and soil contamination, waste management, energy, or policy)
  • Familiarity with the internal operations of DND is an asset
  • Effective interpersonal and public relations skills
  • Ability to adapt to various situations quickly while adhering to deadlines
  • Availability to travel approximately 20% of the time (fully compensated, including some weekends, if required) with a valid driver’s license

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen
  • Travel required approximately 20% of the time (fully compensated, including selected weekends if required)
  • Valid driver’s license is required
