This is a hybrid role based in Ottawa and requires the ability to obtain reliability clearance.

Position Overview

The General Accounting Administrator responsibilities include but are not limited to monthly journal entries, monthly account reconciliations, posting of AP invoices and master data review, PO approvals, processing e-time corrections, monthly/quarterly financial reports, audit support, back-up for general accounting (banking) administrator for cash payments & tax remittances. SAP is used to process business transactions, disbursements and employee expenses.

Responsibilities

  • Processing monthly journal entries
  • Assist with month end, quarterly and audit reporting
  • Approval of PO’s – review supporting documentation for PO changes and approve PO’s in SAP for accuracy
  • Process e-time corrections: process e-time corrections in SAP submitted by the contract administrators accurately and in a timely manner
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly: timely and accurate and with strict adherence to month end schedule
  • Post AP invoices in SAP: review for accuracy and appropriate approvals
  • Approve vendor changes in SAP – review accuracy of vendor setup, completed in a timely manner
  • SAP testing: ad hoc testing as required
  • Maintaining Excel files as required
  • Other duties (as assigned) may include:
    • Stats Canada surveys
    • Assist Finance with documentation of processes and policies
    • Provide support and be back-up for General Accounting Banking administrator (payment runs, online banking, bank rec’s, tax remittances, f/x processing)
    • Other duties may be assigned as required

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years accounting experience, preferably within an SAP environment
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Excellent grasp of accounting fundamentals: debits and credits, subledger to GL reconciliation etc.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and committed to a high degree of accuracy. Must be able to gather, prioritize and analyze information skillfully
  • Must be eligible to obtain a Canadian Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level

  • Highly developed sense of tact, discretion, and judgement in dealing with confidential, sensitive and/or delicate matters
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with experience communicating effectively and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels within the organization
  • Openness to new ideas, sound decision making and independent thinking
