About Our Opportunity

 

As a seasonal Maintenance Worker at the Amherst Visitor Information Centre, you are a part of a team responsible for assisting with the maintenance of the interior and exterior of the building and grounds including required janitorial duties.

 

This opportunity would be a great fit for an individual that enjoys being outside and likes working with various types of equipment. This position requires working outside in various types of weather.

Primary Accountabilities

 

Daily responsibilities include:

 

  • Maintaining the grounds (mowing, planting, seeding, weeding, cutting and trimming trees and bushes), minor repairs (flagpole repair, painting, and plumbing), routine equipment and tools maintenance, janitorial (cleaning and stocking the washrooms, cleaning the windows, floors and dusting) and maintaining cleaning supplies.
  • Assisting with site maintenance, equipment inventories, security checks, opening and closing procedures and other duties as required.
  • Working in varying weather conditions and wet/cold environments.
  • Providing professional customer service and relations to visitors.
  • Working safely by following the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and Workplace policies all safe work practices.

Qualifications and Experience

 

To be a successful in this role you must have two (2) years related experience working in a maintenance environment. This includes knowledge and experience in general handyperson skills, painting, building and grounds maintenance, and general equipment maintenance as required.

 

This role requires an individual who has a positive attitude and ability to speak confidently and professionally when addressing visitors and staff within the facility.  You work well independently and in team settings, valuing and respecting a diverse and inclusive environment.  

 

You also have basic computer skills, including use of software packages such as Microsoft Office (Outlook and Word).

 

You also have:

 

  • Experience and strong knowledge of maintenance operations
  • Strong aptitude for safe operation of equipment, general maintenance, and repair
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and sanitation requirements
  • Certification in First Aid and WHMIS

 

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks

Equivalency

 

Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.

  • Grounds Helper
  • General Maintenance
  • Light Replacement and Minor Electrical Repairs

Working Conditions

 

  • You must have a driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift/carry 50+lbs of equipment over varying terrain
  • The position involves shiftwork, including weekends and holidays.

Additional Information

 

There is one (1) permanent seasonal opportunity available at the Amherst Visitor Information Centre. The seasonal term of 4 to 6 months is expected to start mid may.

 

Please note, the seasonal status for this position is expected to be 4 to 6 months, however the actual status will depend on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade:  MOS 07  

Salary Range:  $1,645.29 - $1,686.75 Bi-Weekly
