About Our Opportunity

 

The Environmental Engineer 1-3 will be responsible for supporting the planning, development, and implementation of environmental regulations, policies and programs to address key environmental legislative and regulatory concerns and enforceable standards related to hydrogeology, water resources management, industrial activities and wastewater.

This position reports to the District Manager (Truro NSECC Office); however, the incumbent will work with and in support of the Engineer 4 team.

Primary Accountabilities

 

  • participate in program improvement projects, as necessary;
  • the development and delivery of effective and efficient regulatory management;
  • data analysis and compliance report reviews; and
  • enforcement and protection of the environment through the provision of highly technical information, specialized knowledge, advice and interpretation of the Environment Act and associated regulations.

Qualifications and Experience

 

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Engineering Degree and must be registered with Engineers Nova Scotia as a Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-training. Relevant experience in environmental, civil, process or chemical engineering would be considered an asset.

As the successful candidate, you will:

 

  • have knowledge and/or experience in preventing and managing environmental issues;
  • process strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills (verbal, written) which are critical to interact and communicate strategic and tactical concepts across a wide range of audiences; and
  • be administratively self-sufficient with strong computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing and presentation packages.

Working Conditions

 

This position is predominantly within an office setting, with occasional field work or travel to other offices and may require site visits to other business establishments.

Additional Information

 

The following would be considered an asset:

 

  • experience writing / recording detailed technical data and reports; and
  • knowledge of provincial and federal legislation, regulations, policies and programs relevant to the environment in Nova Scotia.
