About Our Opportunity

 

Procurement’s Business Intelligence Team provides business systems support and analytics services for the branch and to a very broad client base across the Nova Scotia Public Sector. The BI Team is involved in everything from daily service and support up to larger transformational projects impacting the broader Procurement service and its clients.

 

This position reports to the Manager, Procurement Analytics.

Primary Accountabilities

 

As an Intern, Data Quality Program, you will:

 

  • Support implementation and maintenance of procurement data quality management program.
  • Perform data profiling, calculate and report data quality metrics. 
  • Support in report clean-up exercise.
  • Support in requirements gathering, for creating of new reports by documenting data requirement gathered from the key stakeholders.
  • Provide support for the technical data steward in the new data quality program to be implemented.
  • Provide a relief and back-up for data analysts.
  • Manage and document critical data elements approved by the division leadership.
  • Create and a repository of the data defects for correction and follow-up to resolution. 
  • Support users in understanding current features and functionality of business systems in place to support procurement activity through one-on-one consultation or presentations/demonstrations to broader user groups.
  • Perform scribe function during the data governance assessment and will support data governance process documentations.
  • Work with various BI tools (Microsoft Power BI tools, Microsoft excel, word and Microsoft Project, SQL, Tableau and python, AI knowledge will be nice to have)
  • Identify opportunities, research, and evaluate the feasibility and organizational need/readiness around options to expand business system features and/or functionality.
  • Work as part of a team or independently on specific initiatives designed to support or streamline procurement operations through business system enhancements, from soliciting and documenting business requirements through to user testing and post-implementation support.
  • Liaise with other departments, contracted consultants, software vendors and/or cloud service providers.
  • Participate in knowledge sharing activities with team members.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

 

To be considered for this position, you must be a recent graduate from a college diploma or a university bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence Analytics Business Administration, eCommerce, etc.) within the last 3 years. 

 

 

In addition, you must be knowledgeable in:

 

  • Business analysis principles and techniques 
  • Basic principles of data governance and definitions of the data management knowledge areas 
  • Researching and defining recommended options for business technology and/or service solutions
  • Creating documentation for system or process changes, including writing procedures or user guides 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, spreadsheets, diagramming, and presentation software.
  • Azure Business Intelligence Skills and Databricks knowledge. 

 

You have excellent analytical, problem solving, organizational, facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.  You work independently using sound judgement.  You also work collaboratively with teammates, building relationships with clients and stakeholders to understand business needs, and ensure relevant changes are monitored, tested, evaluated and delivered on time.

 

Recent graduate from NSCC diploma or university degree in an analytics or related discipline are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience designing and building web applications, implementing cloud-based software solutions, working with SAP related products, experience in creating dashboard using, R, Tableau and Microsoft Power BI, and knowledge of Python, JSON file handling, GitLab, API development/scripting and SQL programming and database design/management are also considered assets.

 

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
