The Nova Scotia School Book Bureau is responsible for the acquisition and distribution of learning resources and related products to support teaching and learning and to ensure availability in a cost-effective manner to Nova Scotia schools.

About Our Opportunity

 

In this summer student vacancy, you would provide support to the Nova Scotia School Book Bureau. As a Warehouse Stores Clerk, you would be responsible for the receiving and shipping of learning resources (print resources, manipulatives, software, etc.) to the schools in Nova Scotia. Receiving learning resources entails unpacking, accurate counting, checking packing slip against purchase order, receiving in computerized system and storing in numerical bin locations. The Stores clerk also picks and packs orders for shipment. This includes counting, verifying sales orders against bin locations and titles, packing and labeling for shipment. The Stores Clerk identifies method of shipment by weight, quantity of cartons and location. Maintains clean warehouse and assists in loading/off-loading freight, verifying and signing deliveries. You may perform other related duties as assigned. Any exposure to financial, operational, and/or personal information is to remain confidential.

Qualifications and Experience

 

To be considered for this opportunity, you are currently a student enrolled in a post-secondary institution, available to work in the summer of 2025, and are returning to school in the Fall of 2025.

 

The following skills are required: 

 

·         Exceptional attention to detail

·         Work requires lifting up to 65 lbs, and being active for      extended periods of time

·         Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, and quickly grasp new processes

·         Ability to work well in a team environment, as well as independently

·         Strong communication (written/oral) and interpersonal skills

·         Computer skills, experience in Microsoft Suite; Word, Excel and Outlook, and experience with databases, and internet.

·         Problem solving skills and good judgement

·         Strong organizational and time management skills

 

The following would be viewed as assets:

 

·         Experience in an inventory/warehouse environment

·         Ability to operate warehouse equipment, e.g. strapper, pallet jacks, postage systems

·         Ability to work well in a team environment, as well as independently

·         Occupational Heath and Safety courses

 

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: standardized test(s), interview(s), physical skills test and reference checks.

Additional Information

 

Please note, this is a casual summer student opportunity with a projected start date of May 4, 2025, and a projected end date of August 31, 2025. 

 

Work will be conducted at our warehouse in Dartmouth, NS

 

Hours of work are from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, excluding holidays

 

Due to the nature of the work, CSA approved steel-toed footwear is required 

 

Casual work attire is appropriate for warehouse and interaction with internal/external clients
