Director, Communications - Remote

The Director, Communications oversees the Communications and Governance department, managing a small team and handling all aspects of governance, public relations, internal and external communications, and strategic partnerships.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional writing skills, with the ability to shape messaging and drive meaningful impact through clear, compelling communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies, activities, and plans, ensuring effective communication and governance processes.
  • Manage budgets, monitor expenditures, approve contracts, and authorize payments.
  • Develop and manage communication channels, including websites, and news platforms.
  • Coordinate internal and external document production, including publications and translations.
  • Support government relations, media engagement, and crisis communication efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant governance laws and policies, including the preparation of materials for board meetings.
  • Manage the logistics for board and committee meetings, including venue selection and contract negotiations.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Journalism, English, Public Affairs, Professional Writing, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years in strategic communications, with at least 5 years in senior leadership and supervisory roles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; French language skills are considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting Boards of Directors.
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit governance and relevant laws.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
