About This Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Electrical power and motion systems to play a crucial role in collaboration with the technical leaders in guiding the development, integration, and optimization of power and motion electrical designs in Global Hardware Engineering.

This role involves providing expert-level knowledge and support on the latest power and motion and technologies, ensuring their effective implementation to meet our design execution, quality, and safety standards. The ideal candidate will be proficient and will have demonstrated a strong mastery in electrical engineering design, combined with a deep understanding of CAE’s power and motion architectures, industry best practices and interactions with downstream users (manufacturing, aftermarket, customer service and more).

The Hardware Design Department is responsible for providing hardware solutions for all CAE training devices. Our multidisciplinary team, trained and dedicated to its task, has a vast know-how in many sectors such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and electronic engineering.

Our main mission is to design, customize and manage the development of cost-effective and innovative hardware solutions aligned with CAE’s strategic plan and our clients’ requirements. We are set to deliver highly technological products and services that are part of a digital ecosystem.

Responsibilities:

  • Electrical Design: Leading design activities such as DFX, design reviews and organizing teams to provide deliverables that meets the requirements.
  • Power Expertise: Serve as the primary expert on power architecture electrical design, providing guidance and recommendations on component selection, integration, and industry best practices.
  • Motion Expertise: Serve as the primary expert on motion architecture electrical design, providing guidance and recommendations on component selection, integration, and industry best practices.
  • Technical Support: Offer advanced technical support and troubleshooting for power and motion systems, addressing complex issues, providing solutions. Act as delegate approver for technical leaders. Capable of using basic electrical equipment such as DMM, Oscilloscope, Power Data Logger. (A must)
  • Training & Mentorship: Conduct training sessions and workshops for engineering staff on power and motion electrical systems, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing.
  • Standards Compliance: Ensure that power and motion electrical design and practices comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements for simulation industry such as the NEC, AS3000, Machine Directive, EN60204-1 and EN62368-1.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously assess and improve the design and development processes, recommending upgrades or modifications to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, internally and externally, to ensure cohesive and effective use of design tools across projects.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical design.
  • Tool Proficiency: Extensive experience with E2A, powerdraft, Wire List Manager, Work Group Manager, and mastering PLM systems
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of electrical design principles, PLC and HMI functionality, simulation industry standards, and regulatory requirements. Communication protocols are an asset (UART, I2C, CAN, RS485)
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of addressing complex technical challenges.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and effectively.
  • Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to adapt to evolving technologies and industry trends, with a proactive approach to continuous learning. Able to work under pressure to respect project timelines.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail, with a focus on precision and accuracy in design and documentation.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is required.
