Our leading healthcare client is looking for a Medical Terminologist to join their team! This position will be fully remote with the option to work from an office if desired.

This position focuses on supporting the implementation of digital health standards, specifically in data exchange and terminology, such as SNOMED CT, LOINC, and HL7 (V2/V3, CDA, FHIR). The role involves working with stakeholders to provide expertise, ensuring standards are correctly applied, and contributing to the development and maintenance of terminology systems.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a subject matter expert on terminology standards, offering guidance and advocating for interoperability in both internal and external projects.
  • Support and maintain the Canadian Edition of SNOMED CT in both English and French.
  • Manage requests for changes to SNOMED CT, ensuring updates align with national and international standards.
  • Oversee quality assurance processes for SNOMED CT content creation, collaborating with internal teams and external partners.
  • Coordinate the translation of healthcare standards while ensuring adherence to editorial and linguistic guidelines.
  • Represent Canadian interests in national and international standards forums and participate in community discussions on health interoperability.
  • Assist in developing training materials and educational resources related to digital health standards.
  • Document operational processes and contribute to tool development, testing, and maintenance to support standardization efforts.
  • Work closely with product owners to align interoperability roadmaps with industry standards and best practices.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Health Information Management, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field (MBA/MSc is an asset).
  • Experience working with health data standards such as SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD, and HL7 (V2, FHIR).
  • At least three years of experience in terminology mapping, modeling, or content development within SNOMED CT.
  • Strong analytical skills for assessing interoperability standards, performing gap analyses, and providing recommendations.
  • Familiarity with terminology management tools (e.g., SNOMED CT browsers, FHIR Terminology Servers) and implementation guides.
  • Experience with workflow and collaboration tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and InfoRMS is an advantage.
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English is preferred.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and technical writing skills.
  • Experience working with standards organizations like SNOMED International, Regenstrief Institute, HL7 Working Groups, or CHI is beneficial.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and contribute effectively in a cross-functional team.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
