Eligibility:

This position is open to all CUPE employees. Preference will be granted in accordance with the Collective Agreement for CUPE local 1479 to permanent internal candidates. Temporary employees will have their applications considered prior to external applicants.

Assignment:

Effective immediately

Working 8 hours a day, 5 days a week

Plant Operations – East – Kingston, ON & Plant Operations - West - Belleville, ON

Position Summary

Reporting to the Plant Operations Manager, The Maintenance Person - Carpenter is responsible performing a wide variety of duties related to the repair, maintenance, installation and construction of interior and exterior components and contents of school structures and other Board facilities. This would include, but is not limited to school fixtures and equipment, school grounds, and associated items as they apply to the carpentry trade.

Qualifications

  • Valid General Carpenter trade certificate issued by the Ontario Ministry of Trades/ Skilled Trades Ontario.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in general carpentry, construction, or related industry, or minimum

    three (3) years’ experience in construction or maintenance of timber framed buildings.

  • Sound knowledge of general construction codes and regulations.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the Ontario Building Code.
  • An extensive general knowledge of building and equipment maintenance and repair work.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license in order to travel and provide service throughout the district.
