JOB DESCRIPTION

About This Role

The Financial analyst is responsible for the accounting cycle related to projects and development of related reporting of the Montreal organization.

Must possess a strong understanding of cost accounting and financial analysis, and must provide valuable and appropriate support to the Business Units.

Month-End Process

  • In charge of the project accounting month-end processes and related reporting.
  • Prepare monthly financial summary report for all projects, which includes their status, total costs, revenue, work in process, cost of sales, profit margins, budgets, and remaining work.
  • Investigate solutions to eliminate issues in balancing the GL to Project sub-ledger which are found within Oracle Modules to identify the corrective course of action needed.
  • Analyze a contracts position whether it is in a UBR position (contract has generated revenue before invoicing) or UER position (contract generated invoices but no revenue)
  • Calculate the foreign exchange gains and losses of each contract and book entry to OCI (other comprehensive impact)
  • Analyse month-end procedures and identify possibilities for improvements.

R&D Government Programs

  • Prepare the journal entries, reports and claim for the government grant related to R&D projects.
  • Reconcile accounts receivables, debt and funding accounts and prepare quarterly notes used in financial statements.

Inventory

  • Reconcile and analyze the movement of inventory and explain material differences.
  • Prepare the inventory reports while working in collaboration with the inventory department for ad hoc analysis.

Other Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyse the required quarterly reports for the external auditors and deliver adhoc analysis as required.
  • Prepare the reporting for tax group at year end and deliver adhoc analysis as required.
  • Develop ad-hoc reporting and extracts from Oracle, Planisware and legacy systems data based on users requirements.
  • Analyze various exception reports that require adjustments to projects.
  • Coordinate and participate in meeting involving project accounting.
  • Coordinate and resolve issues with business representatives by proposing a plan to rectify the issue.

Qualifications

  • University degree in accounting or finance.
  •  Recognized accounting certification (CMA, CA, CGA).
  • Three to five years of relevant experience in project accounting in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong in data analysis, systems and reporting tools.
  • Good knowledge of ORACLE.
  • Proven experience in multinational company and demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel).
  • Additional education may be substituted for some experience.
