Our not-for-profit client in Downtown Toronto is seeking an Accountant to join their team. This position is a 13-month contract to cover a maternity leave absence. This role would require the successful candidate to be in office 3 days a week. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Review and verify accounting and financial information, including vendor invoices, expense reports, and per diem cost sheets, ensuring accuracy and eligibility.
  • Review and post accounts payable invoices and expense reports, ensuring proper allocation of payments to the correct general ledger accounts and grants
  • Maintain organized filing systems for supplier/vendor invoices, expense reports, and contracts.
  • Review per diem cost sheets and expense reports for program staff, ensuring compliance with travel policies.
  • Prepare bank account reconciliations and investigate any unreconciled or uncleared transactions, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution.
  • Prepare and reconcile credit card statements, enter related transactions into the accounting system, and follow up with staff on any pending invoices, receipts, or transaction descriptions.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly accruals and journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare cash investment summaries, providing an overview of cash management activities.

 

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles.
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in accounting.
  • Experience with non-profit organizations is an asset. Familiarity with expense reporting, grant accounting, and travel policies is a plus.
  • CPA student preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of one-year of hands-on experience with QuickBooks or any other accounting software.
  • Proficient in Excel and skilled in creating reports using formulas and formatting.
