Alberta Infrastructure designs, builds, manages, and maintains government-owned and operated facilities, and collaborates with other ministries to ensure that schools, hospitals and government facilities infrastructure meet the needs of Alberta’s population. The Ministry also provides accommodation services and manages a large portfolio of owned and leased facilities while maintaining fiscal accountability and optimizing value for Albertans.

Role Responsibilities

 

The Asset Management Branch manages accommodations for almost 27,000 staff in more than 1,400 structures for a total of over 1.9 million square meters of owned and leased space. The strategic planning and management of these assets is critical. 

 

 

Alberta Infrastructure’s Asset Management Strategy aims to return maximum value for Government of Alberta buildings, land, and leased facilities by ensuring sound financial stewardship and both efficient and quality outcomes as our assets move through the full life cycle of Plan/Design, Acquire/Build, Operate/Maintain and Dispose/Re-purpose.

 

 

Reporting to the Strategic Asset and Accommodation Planning Manager, the Strategic Asset Planner supports the management, planning, and optimization of Infrastructure’s owned and leased facilities. This role will involve long-term and short-term planning, inventory management, property acquisition and disposition, as well as coordinating land use and space requests for both internal and external stakeholders.

 

 

The primary responsibilities of the Strategic Asset Planner include, but are not limited to: 

 

  • Analyze utilization and government program requirements for portfolio of owned and leased facilities across the Province and develop long-term strategic plans for these assets. 
  • Develop reports and make asset investment recommendations with consideration to Infrastructure’s portfolio of owned and leased facilities with understanding of the full life cycle needs of the asset, considering where they have the best value, balanced across the whole of government. 
  • Preparing formal correspondence and advising senior management on issues related to our portfolio of owned and leased facilities. Work with Accommodation Planners to deliver cost-effective, functional space solutions to meet client ministries’ space requests. 
  • Review and prepare documentation for accurate inventory information related to occupants and space allocation.
  • Review and provide direction on the acquisition and disposition of properties in alignment with long-range asset management plans.
  • Coordination of lease space review and instructions for new or renewed leased space.
  • Act as a consultative resource for land use planning and facility utilization.

Qualifications

Required:

  • University degree in Urban/Regional Planning, Business, Interior Design, Architecture or a related field plus 4 years of related experience. 
  • Class 5 drivers license required as there will be travel periodically across the province.

 

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered based on 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

 

Skills/Knowledge required:

 

  • Working knowledge of rural and urban planning issues, principles, and processes.
  • Understanding of space accommodations.
  • Ability to assess options and implications in new ways to achieve outcomes and solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including facilitation, communication, and ability to work as a team member.

Hours of work: 7.25 hours daily, 36.25 hours per week
