Role

 

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, System Excellence Division, the Executive Director, Provincial Assessment will provide overall strategic leadership for the development and maintenance of Alberta's provincial assessment programs (Diploma Exams, Provincial Achievement Tests, and early years assessments) in both English and French. The Executive Director is also responsible for the oversight of the Canadian Adult Education Credential. You foster relationships and work in partnership with system stakeholders, other provincial, and Francophone partners to ensure well-coordinated and responsive approaches that meet student needs. You will be accountable for ensuring that provincial assessment development teams understand, establish and follow consistent ministry policies, processes and standards relative to provincial assessments including the transition of assessment delivery to a new digital platform. 

 

This position oversees the leadership and strategic management in the division by setting and monitoring deliverables by establishing clear provincial assessment schedules and ensuring that all deliverables align with the ministry’s goals, including effective and efficient management of financial and human resources to achieve division operational plan targets. Strategic alignment of this work with government priorities and policies is essential to your success. You will build and sustain stakeholder relationships to facilitate collaboration and support the sector’s objectives and ensure stakeholder involvement in the development and administration of provincial assessment to align with departmental standards and processes by ensuring validity and fairness to all students and produce reliable results. As a transformational leader you will also have branch oversight to the following four reporting branches: Diploma Programs, Exam Administration, French Assessment and Canadian Adult Education Credential, Provincial Achievement Testing & Early Years Assessment. You will ensure that each branch operates effectively and contributes to the broader objectives of the division and ministry.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Your background includes highly successful senior management leadership experience, research, and knowledge of the K-12 education system including large-scale standardized assessment design and delivery.  In addition, you will have demonstrated an ability to manage change and build and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships with a wide variety of stakeholders, collaborating strategically while balancing needs and interests. This position will tap into your strengths in business, and operational planning processes, including advanced planning and evaluation, coordination, and project leadership skills and organizational abilities, with proven success in managing complex issues and demanding work volumes. You will mentor and coach your team as you lead them through various change initiatives. A bachelor’s degree is required; a graduate degree in a related field will be considered an asset.

 

Salary

 

$5,082.46 - $6,679.30 bi-weekly ($132,652- $174,329 yearly)
