Classification and Salary: Maintenance Service Worker 1 (MSW1) – Park Maintenance Worker 1: $20.14 - $24.22 per hour

In addition to regular wages, regular Wage employees receive 11.2% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave:
•    5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays 
•    6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay

In addition to the regular wages and the additional pay in lieu of benefits and vacation, regular wage employees are entitled to shift premium pay:
•    $3.25 per hour for weekends 
•    $2.75 per hour for evenings

Role Responsibilities

Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park is a unique landscape that contrasts the surrounding prairie landscapes, making it an exciting destination for campers and day users alike and overlaps the Alberta and Saskatchewan borders. The Cypress Hills District is located 65 km South of Medicine Hat and covers approximately 200 sq km of provincial park. The district includes Red Rock Coulee, Michelle Reservoir. The focal point is the Elkwater Townsite with 300 cottages, 10 campgrounds, 5 group camps and front & backcountry comfort camping.

Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park/Aisinai’pi was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019. This unique site in the Canadian Badlands protects a vast collection of ancient pictographs and petroglyphs created by Blackfoot and other First Nations groups. The awe-inspiring badlands setting is a rugged, yet fragile location that is home to numerous species at risk. Aisinai’pi promotes a living culture landscape and works to provide authentic stories and interpretation to visitors from around the world.

If you enjoy working outside and are committed to caring for Alberta Park’s facilities and campgrounds, come join our Maintenance Team at Cypress Hills Provincial Park (Elkwater) or Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park/Aisinai’pi. We are looking for highly motivated, well-organized, responsible Maintenance Crew Workers for the 2025 summer operating season.

Individuals will be part of a team accountable for providing regular maintenance and operational duties that support the day-to-day operation of Cypress Hills Provincial Park (Elkwater) or Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park/Aisinai’pi campgrounds, day use areas, facilities and trail systems.

We are currently looking to hire:
•    Park Maintenance Worker 1 (MSW1)

As a Maintenance Service Worker (MSW1), duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
•    Performing landscaping, building cleaning and site servicing of campgrounds, day use areas and facilities.
•    Performing routine and preventative maintenance on infrastructure, vehicles and equipment.
•    Collection of garbage and recycling.
•    Assisting with cleaning of park facilities and buildings when needed.
•    Operating equipment such as mowers, trimmers, ATVs, skid steers, etc.
•    Assisting with trail maintenance, beach and dock maintenance.
•    Installing and maintaining signage.
•    Reporting all major maintenance concerns to Supervisor.
•    Assists with hazard tree management and invasive plant management programs.
•    Being familiar with and practicing all pertinent occupational health & safety (OH&S) policies, procedures and protocols; and with the Facility Emergency Response Plan and protocols.
•    Completing administrative tasks such as timesheets, expense claims, commencement and termination paperwork, and online courses.

This position will require you to work various shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays. You have the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week and will be paid for number of hours worked. You must have good physical stamina to be able to perform manual duties outdoors and in any time of weather conditions, rain or shine.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Park Maintenance Worker 1 – (Maintenance Service Worker 1)
•    Some high school education or directly related experience based on year of experience for one year of education,

Additional requirements
•    Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent and Driver’s Abstract.
•    Current Intermediate Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C"/AED Certificate.
•    WHMIS 2015.

Additional Assets to be successful in any of the roles:
•    Experience with hand and power tools; good working knowledge in the operation, maintenance and safety of small equipment.
•    Experience working in custodial, landscaping, or similar positions.
•    Chainsaw certification.
•    Exceptional communication skills and comfort level in dealing with difficult customer interactions or complaints. 
•    Knowledge of Cypress Hills.

Notes

Terms of Employment:
•    Fulfil seasonal contract (Cypress Hills anticipated May – September/October) (Writing-on-Stone anticipated April/May – September/October).
•    Access to reliable transportation to and from place of work.
•    Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent will be required. 
•    Successful Candidates will be required to provide a 3 year Driver’s Abstract with no more than 6 demerits issued within 30 days of submission of application.
•    Recognized Current Intermediate Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C"/AED Certificate.
•    Adherence to Alberta Parks Uniform Policy; all personal protective equipment is provided.
•    CSA approved steel toe footwear is required at the responsibility of the applicant (reimbursable with receipt).
•    These positions will require outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions.
•    Training sessions at the beginning of employment are mandatory (late April/early May).
•    Hours of work are up to 8 hours/day, and up to 40 hours/week.
•    Evenings, weekends and holiday work will be required.
•    On-site fully furnished, shared accommodations may be available for rent upon request.
•    Vacation requests will be considered but not guaranteed.
