Your Opportunity
As an Urban Planner within our Community Development team based in our Edmonton Office, you will have the opportunity to work on projects in the private and public sectors such as new neighbourhood plans, Area Structure Plans, rezonings, subdivisions, and other planning documents/applications with varying degrees of public engagement. We work on projects in both greenfield and infill settings as well as long range policy development. We connect the people, places, and resources that take a project from concept to reality.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Preparation and/or analysis of planning related policy documents, site plans, subdivisions, road closure and rezoning applications.
Preparation of Municipal Development Plans and Land Use Bylaws.
Project Manage applications.
Collaboration and communication with clients, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
Conducting research regarding planning policy, land use, social and economic topics.
Providing professional advice regarding planning policy and zoning interpretation and regulatory approvals.
Communicating with other multidisciplinary team members on relevant aspects of projects.
Presenting to a variety of audiences, i.e. the public, stakeholders, business owners, boards, and Municipal Councils.
Organizing and assisting in the facilitation of public engagement events.
Assisting in the preparation of proposals and other business development activities.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Membership/eligibility, with the Canadian Institute of Planners or Alberta Professional Planners Institute.
Knowledge and experience in community development and urban design leading practices.
Experience in subdivision design and innovative planning approaches would be an asset.
Excellent written/oral communication skills, organizational skills, and high attention to detail.
Strong project management skills and experience of planning theory, practice and procedures.
Strong communication, negotiation, interpersonal and time management skills with the ability to function in a high volume, challenging environment. Creative problem solving and analytical skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft and other programs such as InDesign are an asset.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Urban Planning; Master's degree in Planning is considered an asset.
Minimum five (5) years of relevant professional experience.
Hybrid work is a possibility. Some travel may be required, such as attending meetings or engagement events. May occasionally visit study areas, construction sites and/or be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions.
