As the successful candidate, your responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Prepare and develop contract drawings and specifications, reports, schematics, schedules, details, and sketches related to Building Management Control Systems (BMS, BAS, EMCS etc.) from conceptual design through to construction.
Engage and support the Mechanical Engineer and coordinate with other disciplines such as Electrical and Architecture consultants on the project to develop the building controls scope of work in the contract documentation including control sequences and points lists.
Participate in client and internal coordination, and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors for project meetings, value analysis and cost estimating where appropriate
Participate in constructability and commissioning reviews related to building controls.
Assist in the design of building related mechanical systems including HVAC and Plumbing systems across Canada using applicable codes, standards, and reference materials.
Review equipment selections for control requirements and assist in developing preliminary designs and schematics.
Facilitate and ensure the quality of the project deliverables.
Follow production guidelines and project standards.
Review shop drawings and other contractor and commissioning submittals for compliance with construction documents.
Respond and provide related site instructions, RFIs, NCCs in construction.
Perform field surveys for drawing developments, site reviews and as recorded drawings if required.
Aids in the development of new standards, details and master specifications for building controls.
Develop staff skills and abilities by providing guidance and mentoring through effective communication to strengthen technical abilities and work ethic
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Thorough understanding of all building mechanical systems including HVAC and Plumbing. Familiarity with Fire Protection and other building systems for Building Controls integration is considered an asset.
Familiarity with PLC and industrial Instrumentation and Controls is considered an asset.
Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.
In depth knowledge of building control systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
Strong knowledge of high performance and sustainable building practices with experience in LEED certified and / or Net Zero Carbon and Energy buildings is considered an asset.
Checks the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule.
Participates and collaborates in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
Demonstrates creativity, foresight and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving problems
Knowledge or familiarity with National and Alberta Building Codes, plumbing codes, fire codes and energy codes and would be considered an asset.
Knowledge or familiarity with LEED standards, ASHRAE, ASPE and NFPA would be considered an asset.
Excellent verbal and written skills to communicate effectively with colleagues and staff; a “team player” approach.
Self-motivated and self-starter with a strong work ethic.
Good time management skills and able to work in a fast paced work environment and multiple projects.
Eager to learn with strong listening, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Ability to qualify for security clearance based on client requirements, nationally and internationally
Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam or Adobe Acrobat. Experience with Newforma would be considered an asset.
Education and Experience
Engineering Design and Drafting Technology, Architectural Technologies, or Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma
Mechanical Engineering Degree would be considered an asset.
Minimum 10 years of building controls industry related work experience for complex buildings in various sectors such as healthcare, laboratories, commercial, public safety, justice, recreation, educations and light industrial.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
