Agilus is recruiting for an Desktop Support Technician II in the oil & gas industry in Fort St. John, British Columbia.
In this position, you will be a team member on a cross-functional infrastructure operations team that supports the Montney site. This role is unique and requires knowledge of mobility, desktop and Telecommunications.
A typical day:
Work with the TCOM team to support the Field Network Infrastructure and Well Pad Business Communications including the replacement of hardware, Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues by navigating through peer-to-peer communication on the field network using packet captures. Ability to understand the network setup and to help troubleshoot any issues on the network.
Provide hands and eyes support for various wireless technologies: Point-to-point and point-to-multipoint microwave technologies, both licensed and unlicensed, 802.11 Wi-Fi, Land mobile radio systems (LMR), SCADA RTU’s and PLC’s, SCADA Data Collectors these and arrange for contractors to attend sites to resolve issues.
Maintain and build on Business Unit relationships by acting as IT liaison with Operations, Configures, troubleshoots, isolates, repairs, and resolves all customer desktop issues including desktop/laptop hardware and software, mobile devices, printer, scanners, copiers, hardware peripherals and other desktop related equipment.
Troubleshoots and repair desktop computers to ensure they interconnect seamlessly with multiple systems including network drives and all business productivity applications, Communicates directly with customers via phone, e-mail, and remote diagnostics to identify, reproduce and resolve customer reported issues.
Works independently to troubleshoot all support requests and follow escalation policies, Participates in testing, documentation, and implementation of assigned projects, Responsible for tracking hardware inventory for IT. Work with vendors to ensure the network cable is maintained and expanded as required.
Plan and communicate changes to the field network accurately and effectively and understand how those changes impact Oil & Gas operations, Assist the IT Automation team to manage Process Control Networks (PCN) that communicate via IT infrastructure that will stop Oil & Gas production if connections are lost.
Work with IT Automation team to install, commission and troubleshoot process control network at the production facilities by providing connectivity for process control and data gathering.
Monitor and provide metrics of network performance to BU Operations and IT leadership.
Successful candidates will have:
Intermediate level, typically 3-5 years of experience.
Provides technical/functional and/or administrative support.
General working knowledge of specific systems, terminology and procedures used within the department.
Performs routine tasks.
Able to solve problems and make basic decisions.
Understand basic Oil & Gas operations is a plus.
Takes accountability, Leads change, Communicates effectively.
