Position Overview

The Senior Accountant reports to the Divisional Controller and provides accurate and timely accounting support to the finance department at Calian Cyber Solutions. Specifically responsible for the general ledger. Providing validity and accuracy of all transactions posted to the balance sheet and income statement accounts: system-generated and manual period-end journal entries and account reconciliations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed assets.

• Prepare and process numerous month-end journal entries for fixed assets, accrued liabilities, prepaid expenses, and insurance. Other month-end duties and journal entries are required.

• Manage the balancing and reconciliation of sub-ledgers, including AP, AR, Bank, and Fixed Assets.

• Prepare and approve monthly balance sheet reconciliations, as well as investigate and resolve any unusual entries and variances.

• Review and create purchase orders for internal and external customers, collaborating with cross-functional teams.

• Approver of bank transactions for payments, remittances, payroll filings, and commodity tax filings.

• Ensure proper classification of entries in the general ledger and perform monthly analysis of the expenses.

• As assigned, assist the Controller with preparing and reconciling monthly, quarterly, and year-end account files and reports.

• Assist the Controller with the revenue recognition cycle, which includes project completion revenue for project-based accounting

• Recommendations for ensuring proper internal controls are in place and adhered to for financial functions, including journal entries, PO/Invoice approval, access rights, etc.

• Act as backup for payroll, accounts payable and receivable, tax remittances, banking transactions, and payment runs.

• Prepare ad hoc Excel reports as required.

• Directly assist with ERP or other software implementations

• Other duties will be assigned as required.

Qualifications

• Excellent understanding of accounting fundamentals: debits and credits, sub ledger to GL reconciliation, etc.

• Post-secondary education in Accounting

• 4-7 years experience working with General Ledger in an ERP environment.

• Previous accounting experience in a publicly traded company is required.

• Project-based revenue accounting is an asset.

• Strong grasp of internal controls and fundamental understanding of IFRS and revenue recognition.

• High attention to detail, focus on deadlines, and ability to drive things to completion.

• Proficiency in Excel – advanced skills required, including pivot tables, look-ups, and if-statements.

• Previous experience with Great Plains accounting software is an asset.

• Previous experience with Connectwise is an asset.

• Ability to work in a team setting and collaboratively.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal & organizational skills.
