Our client, within the public transportation industry, is seeking a Payment Officer to join their team on a 6-month contract. This hybrid role requires the selected candidate to work onsite 3 days a week, with the potential for extension based on performance and project needs.

Location: Downtown Toronto, Ontario 

Contract length: 6-month contract to start with a strong possibility of extension 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Track payment status of vendor invoices by monitoring progress and ensuring timely processing while identifying any payment delays or issues.
  • Review invoices to ensure they match approved quotes by comparing them to contracts and flagging any discrepancies.
  • Maintain invoice records and trackers by organizing and storing all invoice details, including dates, amounts, and payment statuses, for easy reference.
  • Prepare status reports based on key performance indicators, providing insights into financial status and payment timelines.
  • Track spending against approved budgets by comparing actual expenses to budgeted amounts and identifying any discrepancies.
  • Update accrual summaries regularly, ensuring financial data reflects current obligations and expenses.

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of accounting principles gained through a certificate program or equivalent work experience.
  • At least two years of experience in accounts payable
  • Proficient in using manual and automated office equipment, with the ability to enter data quickly and accurately.
  • Familiar with current accounting software applications.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
