The Court of King’s Bench is the Superior Trial Court for the Province, hearing trials in civil and criminal matters and appeals from decisions of the Court of Justice.

Role Responsibilities

You will be an executive member of the Court that oversees the coordination, planning, tracking, and reporting of ongoing education for all King's Bench Justices and Applications Judges, as offered by the National Judicial Institute (NJI) and the Court. 
 

As an Education Coordinator, you will be working closely with the Chief Justice, Associate Chief Justices, Executive Counsel, and Executive/Administrative Schedulers, to facilitate the delivery of targeted educational programs, including but not limited to:
 

  • Implementing the New Judges Program for newly appointed Justices and Continuing Professional Development Plans for the Court of King's Bench Judges to ensure the Justices receive quality judicial orientation, education and training programs.
  • Leading and collaborating on the planning, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of effective education programs, e-courses, and learning tools to ensure the provision of quality educational programs for the New Judges Program and the Education Committee.
  • Responsible for overseeing and managing the delivery of the New Judges Program and other judicial educational courses for the Court, ensuring educational training utilizes the most effective and best practices in meeting the judicial Continuing Processional Development Plan. 
  • Proactively developing and maintaining productive relationships and strategic alliances with internal and external partners to ensure educational and development initiatives are relevant, current and meet current and future needs. 
  • Establishing an attendance/completion tracking system to ensure judges receive the necessary training/information to fulfill the requirements and objectives of the New Judges Program and judicial Continuing Processional Development Plans.
     

You will play a key leadership role in developing a program of compliance with Continuing Professional Development principles issued by the Canadian Judicial Council. Your role is integral to ensuring all King's Bench judges are equipped with the necessary leadership, development and social context awareness; communications, social media and technology skills; and substantive knowledge, including for specialized cases such as jury trials and sexual assault matters.

The Judicial Education Coordinator provides leadership in taking a proactive approach in the engagement, promotion, coordinating, planning, reporting and monitoring of judicial education for all Court of King's Bench Justices.

Qualifications

University graduation in Business, Social sciences, Arts or any related field plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
 

Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of one year of education for one year of related legal experience or one year of legal experience for one year of related education.
 

Assets include:

  • Contract management skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Working knowledge of online educational/training delivery methodologies, emerging methods, technology and tools.
     

Candidates may be asked to do further testing.

Notes

This is a permanent position in the Court of King's Bench – Calgary or Edmonton, full-time, working Monday to Friday 8:15AM - 4:30PM, 36.25 hours a week.
