Classification and Salary:
Caretaker 1 (CT1) $23.37 - $24.76 per hour
Caretaker 2 (CT2) $24.76 - $27.30 per hour

For all roles:

In addition to regular wages, regular Wage employees receive 11.2% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave:
•    5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays 
•    6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay

In addition to the regular wages and the additional pay in lieu of benefits and vacation, regular wage employees are entitled to shift premium pay:
•    $3.25 per hour for weekends and holidays
•    $2.75 per hour for evenings

Dinosaur Provincial Park UNESCO World Heritage Site is rich in cultural and natural heritage. The provincial park protects the unique badlands landscape and the Red Deer River that meanders through the Park. As one of Alberta’s premiere park attractions, Dinosaur Provincial Park is treasured and enjoyed every year by many visitors of all ages. 

Kinbrook Island Provincial Park is also a very popular destination for camping and outdoor recreation. The lake, beach area, surrounding marshes and large campground provide many outdoor activities such as boating, swimming, sunbathing, fishing, hiking, bird watching and more.

We are looking to Hire for the 2024 summer season:
•    Caretaking Services Supervisor (CT2) at Dinosaur Provincial Park
•    Caretaking Services Supervisor (CT2) at Kinbrook Island Park
•    Caretaking Service Workers (CT1) at Dinosaur Provincial Park

About Your Work Environment:
•    Caretaker Workers and Supervisors  work in an outdoor setting and in all types of weather conditions. Candidates must have the ability to carry out physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions, including extreme heat
•    Candidates are required to have their own reliable transportation, as there is no public transit to or near Dinosaur or Kinbrook Island Provincial Parks 
•    Candidates must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays
•    On-site fully furnished, shared accommodations may be available for rent

As a Caretaking Service worker 1 (CT1), duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
•    Daily cleaning of all park buildings, facilities, and amenities within the park; including (but not limited to) disinfecting, sweeping, mopping, dusting, polishing, washing, laundry, cobweb removal, and filling necessities; facilities also include vault toilets (outhouses), shower and washroom facilities, and accommodation facilities
•    Maintain cleanliness in the caretaking shop; report any equipment issues to the Caretaking Supervisor
•    Set up comfort camping facilities at the start of the season and take down comfort camping facilities at the end of the season as directed by Caretaking Supervisor; assist to keep the comfort camping equipment storage organized
•    Assist with start / end of season cleaning of the accommodation units – mouseproofing living spaces and proper equipment storage
•    Complete minor maintenance repairs and upkeep of these facilities
•    Clean Comfort Camping units at checkout and be responsible for all cleaning/sanitization duties associated with the Conference Centre and accommodation facilities (Dinosaur Provincial Park Only)
•    Collection and disposal of garbage & recycling
•    Regular inspections and upkeep of assigned fleet vehicle/s
•    Responsible for the upkeep and inspection of work spaces following Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) compliance protocols
•    Complete all mandatory Government of Alberta online training courses
•    Complete all SiteDocs training requirements as well as daily SiteDocs vehicle inspections
•    Complete Performance Agreement (beginning, mid-season, & end of season)

Role Responsibilities Continued

As a Caretaker Supervisor (CT2), you will supervise, lead and work alongside the Caretakers (CT1 staff)staff to ensure clean and safe facilities for Park visitors to have a positive experience while in the Park.

In addition to being able to assist and complete the above CT1 duties, you will be responsible for some supervisory and administrative related duties:
•    Ensure Caretakers receive appropriate training to perform cleaning duties, how to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), how to follow Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) guidelines, proper chemical use, WHMIS, and are  informed of Government of Alberta policies and procedures
•    Ensure that staff complete Government of Alberta mandatory online courses
•    Ensure that staff complete all SiteDocs training as well as daily SiteDocs vehicle inspections. 
•    Empower Caretakers to be independent in their roles by setting clear expectations and processes for decision-making; provide ongoing support through regular check-ins on progress, one-on-one training, and follow up with Visitor Services Supervisor; complete performance evaluations; provide constructive feedback 
•    Create and foster an inclusive, positive work environment for all staff and visitors; maintain open comunciations
•    Coordinate day-to-day tasks of the team and ensure daily procedures are followed
•    Manage day-to-day schedule changes; review staff timesheets for accuracy prior to submission
•    Responsible for inventory and supply management of required cleaning chemicals, consumables, PPE, staff uniforms, staff keys and any other items as per location supplies
•    Ensure that staff complete their Performance Agreements. Meet with them at mid-season as well as end of season to review and complete the Performance Agreement prior to end of season.

Qualifications

Education and Experience 

Caretaking Service Worker 1 (CT1) – Caretaker
•    Some high school education plus 6 months of directly related experience (janitorial, house-cleaning/house-keeping, custodial, caretaking); equivalencies will be considered 

Caretaking Supervisor (CT2) – Caretaker Supervisor
•     Some high school education plus 2 years of experience related to janitorial or caretaking services or supervision of staff

Additional requirements include
•    Current WHIMIS Certificate required upon commencement
•    Valid Class 5 license (or equivalent); unrestricted or GDL 
•    5-year Driver’s Abstract issued within 30 days of you application submission, with no more than 8 demerits (4 demerits for a GDL)
•    Intermediate (Standard) First Aid and CPR Level C + AED is required for Caretaking Supervisor (CT2) position only required upon commencement
•    Ability to carry out physically demanding tasks and in extreme weather conditions (including extreme heat) 

Assets:
•    Knowledge of Dinosaur Provincial Park, local area and services, other local Provincial Parks, and local/provincial tourism opportunities and services
•    Experience using Microsoft Office, email and internet
•    Previous supervisory and / or administrative experience 
•    Experience in the hospitality or janitorial cleaning 
•    Experience in commercial laundry and/or house keeping
•    Experience with small tools, household repairs and maintenance
•    Experience with floor polishing/scrubbing/buffing equipment 
•    Customer service skills
•    Positive and energetic personality that enjoys engaging with visitors
•    Off-highway vehicle and small equipment experience

Terms of Employment 
•    These are 36.25 hour/week positions that will require you to also work evenings, weekends and holidays
