Your Opportunity
As a Geotechnical Engineer EIT, you will be a member of a multidisciplinary team working in energy and
resources, primarily on metal, coal and large oil sands mining projects. Work will include various stages in the project life cycle, from exploration and site investigations, through conceptual design, construction, closure and reclamation. Our geotechnical project work typically involves design and evaluation of mine waste structures including pit walls, mine rock and tailings storage facilities, and surface water impoundments.
Applicants must be prepared to travel and be in the field for assignment intervals of 2 to 3 weeks at a time. This role is classified as full-time employment with benefits with an estimated 37.5 hours per week.
Your Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job tasks include, but are not limited to the following:
Participate in the planning and completion of geotechnical/geological site investigations. This may include instrumentation, logging, sampling, and field testing.
Install, monitor and provide preliminary interpretation of data from geotechnical instrumentation.
Participate in the analyses and design of earth structures, including mine pit slopes, waste disposal areas, and tailings dams.
Support mine and tailings planning groups in the development and design of large mining and closure projects.
Assist in the preparation of technical design documents.
Generate and/or update technical drawings, figures and models.
Assist in the preparation of project proposals
Comply with and actively participate in Stantec and client safety programs.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English (both written and oral communication).
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
Working knowledge of ACAD Global Mapper, and GeoStudio is an asset but not required.
Mining or Construction field experience is an asset but not required.
A desire to learn, be part of a community and engage in exciting work.
Education and Experience
Bachelor or Master’s degree in geotechnical, geological, or civil engineering.
Previous co-op/Internship experience in industry or consulting experience.
Valid Class 5 Driver's License and satisfactory Driver's Abstract, per Stantec's Safe Driving Policy.
Registration with EGBC or APEGA (or other provincial body)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
