Your Opportunity

Team leaders are the front-line managers in operational control, responsible for managing team workload and providing opportunities for team members to achieve the career and business objectives as documented in the Year End Performance Review process (YEPR).

BC 1285 is seeking a Team Leader to lead, grow and manage the Data Services team of Ontario. For the first three months you will work closely with the current Team Leader, Carole Lieu, to learn about the role and transition into the Team Leader duties, with the expectation you will take over the Team Leader duties by March 2025. Effective March 2025 you will report to the BCOL for GDS, Martin Chevrier; until then, you will report to the current Team Leader. You will also work directly with the Business Centre Operating Leader (BCOL), the Business Centre Practice Leaders (BCPLs) and other Business Centre Team Leaders to manage workload, staff growth and business opportunities.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead by example and foster an environment of cross-Team collaboration

  • Foster a robust health and safety culture within the team.

  • Manage both formal and informal training for all team members, provide mentorship and identify opportunities for further training and growth.

  • Manage staff utilization and resourcing within the team, requesting assistance from Leadership (i.e., BCOL, BCPLs, and other Team Leads) as appropriate and fostering a collaborative and growth-focused team.

  • Work with your team to address personnel or project issues as they arise.

  • Provide leadership and management to direct reports and support the overall team, including recruiting new hires.

  • Lead the YEPR and compensation review process for individuals on your team and complete pursuant to Stantec policy.

  • Work with the BCPLs and technical teams to identify opportunities for innovation and process improvement for field activities.

  • Promote Stantec’s safety culture and assist the BCPLs with training initiatives and the implementation of and compliance with HSSE policy. The expectation in this role is that you would regularly follow up on staff HSSE training, identify training gaps and work to implement training programs.

  • Work with the BC Leadership teams to promote integration between staff in other disciplines and geographies.

  • Compete operational tasks such as timecard review-approvals, expense review- approvals, vacation review-approvals.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proficient in EarthSoft EQuIS, MS Access and/or SSMS, with a solid understanding of databases and their relationships

  • Strong problem solving, organization, collaboration, and coordination skills

  • Leader in health and safety excellence

  • Proven capacity to influence, support and inspire others

  • Demonstrated ability and desire to work with, and contribute to, a larger team (previous leadership or people management experience, including project-related work, and demonstrated mentorship experience is highly desirable)

  • Excellent communication skills

Education and Experience

  • A degree or diploma in a discipline related to Environmental Sciences or Database Management

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience and proven understanding of Stantec’s policies and HSSE framework and vision.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
