Position: Sr. Multi-Platform Writer, CTV News Toronto
Job status: Regular, Full time 
Location: 9 Channel Nine Court, Toronto
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

 

CTV News is growing its team of journalists.  We are looking to hire an experienced journalist who is excited about delivering the news across multiple platforms and thrives in a breaking news environment.  The successful candidate will be experienced in writing for broadcast and digital formats, understands the power of sound and video, and has strong news judgement. 

Key Responsibilities

  • The writer will be responsible for writing clear, concise, and interesting copy 
  • Ensure the accuracy, consistency and adherence to standards of all material they are responsible for
  • Pitch ideas for original reporting, with an eye for execution across multiple platforms
  • Monitoring wires, internal and external news sources, and broadcast feeds for the most up to date information, while keeping SEO key words and social sharing top of mind
  • Participate in news editorial meetings

Critical Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience working in News 
  • Possess a Degree in Journalism (or relevant equivalent)
  • Must be an exceptional writer, creative thinker and have outstanding news judgment/editorial standards
  • Follow news closely, have a key understanding of what’s happening at all times across Canada and around the world and be able to research and advance any story assignment
  • Ability to work under constant tight deadlines while juggling multiple assignments using strong time management skills
  •  Exceptional command of the English language and an ability to write for both broadcast and digital in a way that demonstrates a keen understanding of the standards required for each 
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written
  • Ability to work in a team and be self-motivated
  • Ability to write engaging headlines that make readers want more
  • Familiarity with Canadian Press Style Guide and Canadian libel law
  • Excellent computer skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • An understanding of newsroom management systems (e.g. iNews, etc.)
  • Proficiency in social networks
