Your opportunity

Stantec is seeking an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical Business Line Canada. The successful candidate will focus on technical and managerial leadership for a variety of projects across various sectors. This may include major design-build infrastructure projects in a multi-discipline team environment. industrial developments, building and land developments, civil infrastructure, pipelines and midstream facilities, mining infrastructure, flood mitigation infrastructure, and renewable energy developments. Working in our Calgary, Alberta office you will have the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams and our geotechnical, geohazard, geomorphology, and materials testing experts across Canada. This role will allow you to leverage your geotechnical project experience and take on increased responsibility while receiving senior mentorship from industry leading experts. Flexible working arrangements will be considered depending on location and experience.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Use your technical and communication skillset to plan and execute geotechnical investigations, complete geotechnical analysis and reporting deliverables, and provide design support to multidiscipline teams.

  • Perform site inspection and supervision, as required.

  • Complete business development activities and prepare proposals.

  • Lead and manage geotechnical projects and design tasks.

  • Develop and maintain strong client and contractor relations.

  • Mentoring, coaching, and training junior staff.

  • Travel as required for various field programs.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong client, sub-consultant and contractor management experience.

  • Strong technical understanding and experience with soil and rock classification, foundation design recommendations, slope stability, earthworks construction, pipeline construction, pavement design, trenchless utility installations and other geotechnical design aspects.

  • Proficiency with common geotechnical software (e.g., GeoStudio software suite, LPILE, gINT, and Settle3).

  • Experience with finite element and limit equilibrium analysis software (e.g., PLAXIS) is desirable

  • Excellent organizational ability, report writing, and verbal communication are essential.

  • Project experience with City of Calgary, Alberta Infrastructure, and Alberta Transportation would be considered an asset.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or Geological Engineering from a recognized university.

  • Post graduate degree (MSc) or doctorate in Geological, Geotechnical or Civil Engineering would be an asset.

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience geotechnical engineering design and consulting, primarily in Alberta or Western Canada.

  • Professional Engineer in good standing with APEGA, or the ability to obtain the professional designation.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
